[545] 2010-05-11 10:36:08 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. This was nearly perfect except that sometimes your pronunciation of "well" had "r" sounds in it. Overall, this was great! You spoke very clearly and at a good speed. NHB

[544] 2010-05-08 21:08:45 - LISTEN

I understood 100%. This was perfect! You spoke well, with great pronunciation. Your English sounds very natural. NHB

[543] 2010-05-07 07:56:10 - LISTEN

I understood about 90-95%. At the end, you started to speak very quickly which made it a little more difficult to hear. Overall, your pronunciation was good, with just a few small mistakes: "vine" needs a stronger "v" which is made be pressing your top teeth on your bottom lip. "Walk" needs an "l" sound (here it sounded more like "work") and lastly, "sour" should have two syllables, "sow-er". NHB

[542] 2010-05-05 13:11:11 - LISTEN

I understood 95%. You did a great job overall with pronunciation, but you just had a couple of very small mistakes. "Think" should have a clearer "th" sound (not an "s") and the "v" in "however" and "every" should be made with your top teeth on your bottom lip (here it sounded more like a "b"). Besides those small mistakes, this was excellent! NHB

[541] 2010-05-05 11:19:52 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. You had great pronunciation and a good voice overall, but the one mistake I found was "touched." The "ed" should not be separate and should sound like "toucht." NHB

[540] 2010-05-04 19:06:59 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. You spoke at a nice slow pace, and I would recommend that you continue to speak at that speed until you feel more comfortable with pronunciation. The biggest problem was that sometimes your pronunciation wasn't very strong. It sounded like the words faded away. For example, in "quarters" the "t" needs to be stronger. Also, in "dangerous" the "ous" at the end was not there or was not clear. Lastly, in "at last" the "a" in "last" should sound the same as the "a" in "at". Overall, this was good, but could be improved. NHB

[538] 2010-05-03 01:00:27 - LISTEN

I understood about 100%. The only thing that was a little off was the word "beautiful". It should have a "y" sound like "be-you-ti-full" (not boo-ti-ful). Other than that, this was very good and easy to understand. Great job! NHB

[537] 2010-05-01 22:40:37 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. You have a very good and clear voice, and very nice pronunciation. There were only two words that need more practice: "awkward" was missing the first "w" sound. "Considered" should sound like "con-si-derd" with all short vowel sounds. Overall though, this was great! NHB

[536] 2010-04-30 01:22:50 - LISTEN

I understood about 100%. The only thing you missed was the word "to" in "he said to himself". You have a very clear voice and it is easy to understand. NHB

[535] 2010-04-30 00:16:47 - LISTEN

I understood about 100%. You did a very good job with pronunciation. You also have a very clear and easy to understand voice. There was nothing major to correct. Keep practicing - some words you seemed to give you more trouble than others, and practicing will help make you more comfortable. Great job! NHB

[534] 2010-04-29 03:03:05 - LISTEN

I understood about 100%. Overall you did very well, and I could hear each word. There were only two little mistakes I found: the "i" in "missed" should be a short i sound, like in "bit" or "is"; and the "t" in "quite" needed to be stronger. Great job! NHB

[533] 2010-04-29 00:31:25 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. The biggest thing to work on is enunciation - saying words more clearly. You have a very soft-spoken voice, which is nice but difficult to understand some sentences and phrases like "snap at people", "I wouldn't be so proud" and "badly behaved dog". Make sure you say the consonants clearly, especially at the beginning and ends of words. NHB

[532] 2010-04-28 10:40:34 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. Overall you spoke very clearly and it made it easy to understand. The only two places I had a hard time hearing was "early spring" and the word "coat". There weren't any big pronunciation mistakes, but those two words could have been clearer. Great job! NHB

[531] 2010-04-27 20:38:39 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. You spoke at a nice speed, but sometimes your soft voice made some words fade away and it was hard to hear them as clearly. At the beginning, it sounded like you said "mouse" instead of "mice". Also, "quarters" should sound like "kwar-terz", and "awkward" should sound like "aw-kward" - the "kw" sound in both seemed to be a problem. The phrase "eat them" was hard to here. The words might have blended together. Last, the word "soon" needs a higher and longer sounding "o" like in "moon", so that it actually sounds more like a "u". NHB

[530] 2010-04-27 10:32:38 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. The "s" on the end of "instruments" was missing. The hardest for me to understand was the last sentence. The "v" in villain should be made by pressing your top teeth on your bottom lip when making the sound. Also the phrase "he will not" at the end blurred together and was difficult to hear. NHB

[529] 2010-04-27 09:08:09 - LISTEN

[528] 2010-04-26 12:03:06 - LISTEN

I understood about 100%. You just had some very, very minor pronunciation errors: the "t" in "getting" sounded like "r"; at one point you said "say the farmer" when it should be "said the farmer"; the word "open" should have a more rounded "o" sound; and "wealth" sounded like it had an "s" on the end, so make sure it has a "th" - the difference is that your tongue is between your teeth for "th". These are little things to work on and will make your recording sound even better. NHB

[527] 2010-04-26 08:05:09 - LISTEN

I understood 100%. Everything was very clear and there were no errors. Once you feel comfortable, I would recommend speaking a little faster so the words sound more natural. Great job! NHB

[526] 2010-04-23 19:00:39 - LISTEN

I understood 100%. You have a very clear voice and spoke at a good speed that made it very easy to understand. I could not find any mistakes except for one, where I think you just said the wrong word: it should be "those grapes" not "these grapes". Overall, great job! NHB

[525] 2010-04-22 10:30:11 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. The biggest problem is word "wolf" which is missing the "w". To make the "w" sound, keep your lips very tight and close together, then breathe out while making the "o" sound. It will be a lower sound. Also, "insulted" was missing the "ed" at the end, as in "in-sul-ted". Other than those two concerns, your voice is very clear and easy to listen to. NHB

[524] 2010-04-21 23:44:13 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. You spoke very clearly and at a nice speed. There were only a few minor things to work on: "reach" had an l sound instead of an r - this was the only place where I heard the mistake. Also, sometimes the "th" sound sounded like "s". Keep up the good work! NHB

[523] 2010-04-20 10:12:07 - LISTEN

I understood 90%. You have a very clear voice, and this would have been perfect except that in the word "horse" the "r" is missing, so that it sounds like "hoss". Nearly perfect! NHB

[522] 2010-04-20 03:25:38 - LISTEN

I understood about 60%. At the beginning you were missing the first letter of some words, like the b in "butchers" and the r in "revenge". The biggest problem was speaking clearly. I would recommend slowing down when speaking, even if you feel silly speaking that slowly. It is hard to hear each individual word. NHB

[521] 2010-04-19 22:32:48 - LISTEN

I understood almost 100%. There was just one little error, when you said the word "hoped". That word needed a rounder "o" sound. Overall, very good! NHB

[520] 2010-04-17 04:57:17 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. You have a wonderful voice that is very clear and easy to understand. There were just a few pronunciation mistakes. The "s" on "wits" is missing. "Plumage" should sound like "ploo-midg"; "Exquisite" should sound like "x-kwiz-it"; and "hugely" should sound like "huge-lee" (you had just an extra syllable in there). Keep practicing and it will perfect! NHB

[519] 2010-04-16 23:31:58 - LISTEN

I understood 100%. You spoke very clearly and slowly, and I understood every word. I could not find any pronunciation mistakes, except that once the "th" in "their" sounded like a "d". In the future, I would suggest speaking just a little faster. NHB

[518] 2010-04-16 17:55:23 - LISTEN

I understood about 70%. I would recommend working on your "b" sound and vowel sounds. Both were just a little off sometimes. The word "exquisite" should sound like "x-kwiz-it". "Caw" is made by dropping your jaw open, like letting it fall. "Wits" should have a short "i" sound, and "sweet" should have a long "e" sound. NHB

[517] 2010-04-15 02:41:47 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. You can just a couple pronunciation mistakes. Otherwise, it was perfect. First, "arguing" should have a stronger "u" sound, so it is like "ar-gYOU-ing". Second, the "r" in "finer" was not said. Overall, this was a very good recording. NHB

[516] 2010-04-14 09:52:13 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. The one phrase that was difficult to understand was "regretted their foolishness". Make sure all the sounds are strong and clear. Otherwise, this was very good! NHB

[515] 2010-04-14 06:02:03 - LISTEN

I understood about 50%. There was some rustling in the speaker at first, which made it very hard to hear anything. Some words that need word are: "useful" should sound like "YOUs-full";and "Axes" should sound like "AK-sez." Also, it was hard to hear the word "better" and the phrase "you were a Bramble" was missing towards the end. With some more practice, I think you'll improve greatly. NHB

[514] 2010-04-13 22:05:02 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. Weasel should have a stronger "l" sound. Sometimes it fades away, or sometimes it sounds more like an "r" at the end. Also, the phrase "on principle" was hard to understand. It should sound like "prin-si-pil". Overall, you speak very carefully, which is good because I can understand each word. When you are more confident in your pronunciations, I would suggest speaking a little faster. NHB

[513] 2010-04-12 09:34:21 - LISTEN

I understood 100%. You have a very clear voice and spoke at a good pace. I understood everything that was said. Keep practicing so it sounds this good all the time! NHB

[512] 2010-04-09 07:30:55 - LISTEN

I understood about 60%. Again, try speaking with more expression instead of just one tone. A few times it sounded like you misread the word: "sign" and "tried" sounded like "sing and tired" - they should sound like "sine" and "ti-erd". "Fierce" should sound like "feerse". The two difficult words in the story were almost pronounced correctly: "Quarrelled" should sound like "kwar-eld" and "Contemptuously" should sound like "con-temp-choo-us-lee". NHB

[511] 2010-04-08 23:32:00 - LISTEN

I understood 100%. You spoke very clearly and it was very easy to understand what you were saying. Keep practicing so you continue to speak this well! NHB

[510] 2010-04-08 00:37:37 - LISTEN

I understood about 90-95%. The recording cut in and out, so it was not very clear. I'm sure another recording would be much better. Also, when reading the title, the word "lion" was difficult to understand. Your pronunciation for everything else was very good. NHB

[509] 2010-04-07 22:13:46 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. Overall, your pronunciation was good. However, there were just a few places where it wasn't quite clear what was being said. The first few times you say "council" the "l" sounds more like an "r". Also, the first time you say bell, the "b" is not very strong. By the end of the story, however, it easier to understand these words, so with practice, you should be great! NHB

[508] 2010-04-07 18:48:44 - LISTEN

I understood 95%. You pronounced each word correctly, however, many times you missed the word "a" in front of "a bird". Also, there should be longer pauses at the end of sentences to let the listener know that you finished one sentence. You did not have many pauses and it seemed like one very long sentence. NHB

[507] 2010-04-07 09:56:08 - LISTEN

I understood about 80%. Overall, you read very well. However, there are a few things to work on: The "w" is missing from "woman". To make the "w" sound, you lips should start close together like a little "o", and while breathing out, drop your jaw open. Also, the vowel sound in plow/plowing should have an "ow" sound like in "how". The "d" in shed needs to be stronger, and there was an accidental "sh" sound in front of the "seemed". NHB

[506] 2010-04-06 01:03:15 - LISTEN

I understood 100%. Your voice was very clear and each word was pronounced correctly. There was a little hesitation before some words, but if you keep practicing your voice will eventually sound more confident. Great job! NHB

[505] 2010-04-06 00:57:06 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. Overall, this was good, and you spoke clearly. There were just a few pronunciation mistakes. "Asked" should sound like "ask't". "Situation" should sound like "sit-choo-a-shun". Also, the "l" sounded like an "r" when it came at the beginning of words, like "lost" and "live". Lastly, "with" should have a short "i" sound, as in "win" or "kiss". NHB

[504] 2010-04-05 09:07:26 - LISTEN

I understod 95%. You have a nice voice to listen to and only stumbled over a couple of words. The two pronunciation errors I hear were the words "touched" which should sound like "touch'd" (with a stronger ending) and "goddess" which should sound like "god-ess". Overall, good job! NHB

[503] 2010-04-02 17:48:25 - LISTEN

I understood about 60%. The first sentence was difficult to understand, but the rest of it I could understand well. Continue practicing at a slower speed to make sure each word is pronounced correctly - the speed you talked in this recording was good. The "r" sometimes sounded like "l" but only when it was at the beginning of a word. For example, "war" was fine, but "reach" was not. Also, make sure the "f" sounds are strong. NHB

[502] 2010-04-02 06:26:02 - LISTEN

I understood about 55%. The biggest challenge is to speak with more expression. Your voice remains at a constant tone throughout and it can be hard to tell what is happening in the story. There were also some pronunciation mistakes. Make sure the "w" in "wolf" is stronger. Start with your lips almost closed and breathe out strongly. The "-ed" on the end of words was also a problem in "clothed" and "penned", which should sound like "cloth-t" and "pend". "Requiring" should sound like "re-kwi-er-ing" and the "v" in "very" should be stronger (your top teeth should be biting your lower lip). Keep practicing! NHB

[501] 2010-04-01 22:19:38 - LISTEN

I was unable to play this recording. Please upload it again in an MP3 file format, and I'd be happy to comment on it. NHB

[500] 2010-04-01 12:34:27 - LISTEN

I understood about 70%. The recording was difficult to hear at times - it sounded like paper was was being shuffled close to the microphone. You had a few pronunciation errors, but your overall voice was very good. Quite sounded like quiet, so make sure the long i vowell sound is followed by the t. Sometimes your l and r sounds were mixed, like in the word "reward". "Badly" should just be "bad-ly" with no extra vowel sound between the d and the l. "Noteriety" should sound like "no-ter-I-etee". Keep practicing and your pronunciation will improve. NHB

[499] 2010-03-31 05:52:14 - LISTEN

I understood 90%. You are missing the last sentence of the story in this recording. Overall, your words are very clear and you had barely any pronunciation mistakes. Your "r" and "l" sounds were a little mixed in the word "replied". One thing to word on is the pauses. Sometimes there were very long pauses in the middle of a sentence and I thought the sentence had finished. Keep practicing! NHB

[498] 2010-03-30 03:46:10 - LISTEN

I could understand about 75% of what you read -- I have a few suggestions to ease communication. Sometimes the short I sound in a word sounded more like an EE. For example, "which" should sound more like "wihtch" rather than "weetch"; "him" should be pronounced more like "hihm" not "heem." Also, at times, the R sound in a word is pronounced more like an L. For example, "relish" and "savory" sounded more like "lelish" and "savoly." Sometimes you pronounce the "th" sound at the beginning of a word more like a "d". For example, "the" sounds more like "da." Keep practicing; you're on the right track. JJ

[497] 2010-03-28 08:51:53 - LISTEN

I could understand about 85% of what you read. Sometimes you pronounce the "th" sound at the beginning of a word more like a "d". For example, "the" sounds more like "da," and "other" sounded more like "udder." At the moment, there are little gaps in between the words; however, keep practicing, and you'll come across a little smoother in no time. JJ

[496] 2010-03-27 10:45:57 - LISTEN

I could understand 100% of what you said, and you speak at a good pace for understanding. At times, you add an extra syllable to a word: for example "secretly" should be pronounced se-cret-ly; noticed --> no-ticed; watched --> watched (one syllable). Also, sometimes the short I sound in a word sounded more like an EE. For example, "him" should be pronounced more like "hihm" not "heem." In general, however, your pronunciation is excellent. JJ

[495] 2010-03-26 21:39:08 - LISTEN

I understood 100%. You speak very clearly, although in this recording it was very quiet and difficult to hear. Overall, this was great. My only suggestion would be in the future to speak a little louder - although it might have just been the recording. NHB

[494] 2010-03-26 20:48:50 - LISTEN

I understood about 99%. Your pronunciation is very good, and you spoke very clearly. Sometimes you spoke a little too close to the recorder but I could still understand everything. Two little mistakes: "beak" should have a long "e" sound like "beek"; and "caw" is the English sound for the noise a crow makes. It should sound more like "KAA". Great job! NHB

[493] 2010-03-26 20:48:14 - LISTEN

I understood about 100%. This was just about perfect except the word "sow." You pronounce it correctly for the verb "sow" as in "sowing the field". However the animal "sow" in pronounced differently, even though it is spelled exactly the same (English is very frustrating sometimes). The animal "sow" should rhyme with "cow". NHB

[492] 2010-03-26 20:48:04 - LISTEN

I understood about 100%. You took your time with each word, and it shows because you had very good pronunciation. One little thing is the word "begged" sounded like it had a "k" instead of "g". To improve this recording, I can only recommend practicing more so that you are more comfortable with the words. Once you are comfortable, it will sound more natural and there won't be as many pauses in between words. NHB

[491] 2010-03-26 06:52:00 - LISTEN

I understood about 80%. Keep practicing at the same speed, because it is easy to understand. There weren't really any specific pronunciation mistakes. There were just some places where the words ran together or were a little jumbled and it was not clear what was being said. First, "once upon a time" is a very popular way that many English stories start, and while I could guess that was what was being said, the "t" in "time" was missing, or sounded like another "n". Practice this phrase, because it comes up many times in stories. Also, "put a bell" was another phrase that blended together and sounded like one word. Make sure there is a little space between "put" and "a bell". The last phrase that was hard to hear was "I agree with you all that the plan..." This was very rushed sounding, and I could not understand the words. Make sure you slow it down, especially when there are a lot of little words in a row. It can be easy to put them all together. NHB

[490] 2010-03-26 06:51:32 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. Most of the words were pronounced correctly. However there were just a few that need more work. "Neighborhood" should sound like "nay-bor-hood"; "Agreeable" should sound like "a-gree-a-bil"; "diminished" should sound like "dee-min-isht"; and "whitened" should sound like "whi-tend". Keep practicing at the same speed of talking. Once you are more comfortable, you can increase your speed. NHB

[489] 2010-03-26 06:50:09 - LISTEN

I understood 99%. You did a great job pronunciating the words - but it sounds like you need a little more practice so that you say them more confidently instead of sounding them out. Just keep practicing and it'll soon be perfect! NHB

[488] 2010-03-25 12:25:07 - LISTEN

I could easily understand 98% of what you read. I notice that you're missing the W sound at the beginning of "Woman." In general, though, your pronunciation is quite good. JJ

[487] 2010-03-25 12:24:17 - LISTEN

I understood about 80%. I suggest you continue to read at the same pace, and once you are more comfortable, read a little faster. Practice your "r" and "l" pronunciations, like in "recently" and "loudly wailed". Also, at the beginning, you said "his" instead of "her", so make sure to read carefully. Lastly, especially in the beginning, I could not hear the "w" in "woman". NHB

[486] 2010-03-25 04:14:30 - LISTEN

I understood almost 100%. Your mouth was very close to the recording device, so in that sense, it was at times hard to hear because of the extra noise. Overall, it sounded like you pronounced everything correctly, except the word "determined" should sound like "de-ter-mind" - but the "mind" part should have a short "i" sound, like rhyming with "wind". NHB

[485] 2010-03-25 04:13:57 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. My biggest suggestion would be to continue to read carefully. Once you feel more confident reading, you can increase the speed of talking. Some pronunciation was a little off: the "g" in "eggs" sounded like a "k" - however, "egg" is pronounced correctly. Practice the vowel and the "r" sound in bird. Also, the "th" in "thus" sounded like "f" and "loses" should sound like "luzes". NHB

[484] 2010-03-25 04:13:01 - LISTEN

I understood about 100%. It was very easy to understand each word you said. The only two errors were the word "all," which had an "r" sound instead of an "l", and "sour" which should sound like "sow [rhymes with cow]-er". Once you're comfortable, I would suggest speaking a little faster. Great job! NHB

[483] 2010-03-24 17:38:44 - LISTEN

I could easily understand 100% of what you said, and you speak at a good pace for understanding. Sometimes there are little gaps in between your words; however, keep practicing, and you'll come across a little smoother in no time. I did notice that sometimes you pronounce the "aw" sound in "bought" more like "boat," but in general your pronunciation is excellent. JJ

[482] 2010-03-24 04:33:32 - LISTEN

I understood nearly 100%. You pronounced each word carefully and spoke at an easy-to-understand pace. The only word that way problematic is "exhausted" which should sound like "x-zaw-stid". Good job! NHB

[481] 2010-03-24 03:03:06 - LISTEN

I understood 100%. You did an excellent job speaking and pronunciating each word. Continue to practice pronunciations to keep up the good work! NHB

[480] 2010-03-24 03:00:40 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. You spoke very clearly although a little too fast at times. It was nearly perfect, except for the word "reach" which sounded like "rist". Good job! NHB

[479] 2010-03-23 22:47:24 - LISTEN

I understood 90%. Your words were very clear. The biggest thing to work on is your "r" and "l" sounds. They seemed to get mixed up like in "rich" and "wealth." Also, the word "hoped" sounded like "hopped." The "o" sound should be rounder and longer. NHB

Overall I could understand 70%. A few words are a bit off. The word "tortoise" should sound like, "tor...tise", the "o" in "tortoise" is actually silent. Also the word, "woke", is different than the word "wake", it should be "woo...oak". And finally the word "judge", there is no need for a pause, it should just be "judge", not "jud...ge". KSM

[474] 2010-03-21 07:54:13 - LISTEN

I understood about 70%. The biggest problems were the pronunciation of the main words in the story: bat, weasel and bird. For bat, the "t" needs to be stronger - sometimes it sounded like "bed". For "weasel", often you said "weasels" (plural), when it was only one weasel. Also, watch the "l" sound at the end. When you say an "r" sound, it sounds more like "wizard" than "weasel". Lastly, the vowel sound in "bird" is a tightly made sound, and your mouth should barely open. Keep practicing! NHB

I could understand 95% of what you read. For the most part, your pronunciation was excellent, however, sometimes the short I sound in a word sounded more like an EE. For example, "in" should sound more like "ihn" rather than "een"; "him" should be pronounced more like "hihm" not "heem." Also, "Goddess" should be pronounced "god-dess." JJ

[472] 2010-03-20 21:30:57 - LISTEN

I could understand 100% of what you said, and you speak at a good pace for understanding. I notice that sometimes you drop the W at the beginning of words such as "would." Also, "goddess" should be pronounced like "god-dess." However, for the most part, your pronunciation is excellent. Keep practicing and you'll sound even smoother. JJ

I understood about 90%. The last few words of your recording were cut off. Overall, I could understand each word you were saying. You had just a few pronunciation errors. The first is the word "swan". It should sound more like "swon". Also the phrase "a certain man" was all jumbled together and I could not hear it very well. These are just a few things to work on, and you'll soon be great! NHB

[469] 2010-03-20 04:36:14 - LISTEN

I understood about 100%. The words were all very clear - just the word "quite" at the end sounded a little like "quiet". Sometimes there were pauses in the middle of sentences, but overall, this was very good! NHB

[468] 2010-03-19 10:25:48 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. You spoke clearly, for the most part, except for the phrase "but who always stole a portion of his allowance of oats" which was a little hard to understand. Also, the "o" in "combing" should sound like the "o" in the word "home". Overall this was good. NHB

[467] 2010-03-19 04:09:54 - LISTEN

I could understand about 65% of what you read. At times, you add an extra syllable to a word. For example, "mistress" should be pronounced "miss-tress." Also, the L sound in a word is sometimes pronounced more like an R. For example, you pronounced "allowed" more like "aROud." You're on the right track though--keep practicing. JJ

I could understand 100% of what you said, and you speak at a good pace for understanding. I noticed that sometimes the last consonant sound in a word is very soft, which can make the words a little less clear (for example, "hoT summer's day" "ouT of reach"). Your pronunciation is excellent, however. JJ

[464] 2010-03-18 18:45:12 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. Overall, your voice is very clear. There were just a few places were your pronunciation was wrong. The word "exquisite" should sound like "X-kwiz-it". The "r" on the end of words like "her" and "fair" is not quite right - it sounds more like a "w" or a vowel sound than an "r" sound. Lastly, the phrase "beauty is without equal" was missing the "is". NHB

[463] 2010-03-18 16:45:58 - LISTEN

I could understand 85%. You are missing the end "s" sound on some words such as "grapes" and "bunches". Also "vine" and "vain" are said in different ways, "vine" should sound like "line" where as "vain" sounds like "rain". And finally the word "quench" is a bit off, it should sound like "k...wench". KSM

[462] 2010-03-18 10:09:37 - LISTEN

I understood almost 100%. You read nearly perfectly, with good pronunciation and pauses in the right places. The only problem was the word "goatherd". You pronounced it like it looks, but it is actually a compound word: goat + herd, and so it is pronounced "goat-herd" with separate "t" and "h" sounds, even though they are next to each other. "Goatherd" is not a common word in English, and many English speakers could make the same mistake. NHB

[461] 2010-03-18 05:09:14 - LISTEN

I understood about 40%. It was not very clear which words you were saying, partly because you speak very softly, and partly because of mispronunciation. Almost all of the "p" sounds sounded like "f". The "p" sound is stronger than an "f" and is made when push air out of your closed lips (almost like spitting). "Axe" should sound like "aks" with a hard "k" sound. "Honesty" should sound like "On-est-ee". The "W" in front of "woodman" was missing. Also, there were times where you missed the endings of words like "disgusted" and "dishonesty". Please make sure the entire word is being said, because that can change the meaning. NHB

[460] 2010-03-18 04:59:24 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. It is very difficult to hear, even with the volume turned all the way up. I am not sure if it is the recording or not, but if you could please talk closer to the microphone when you are recording, it would be helpful! Otherwise, there were just a few pronunciation mistakes: "begged" should sound like "beg'd" where the "ed" ending blends together with the word. Also, "figure" should sound like "fig-your". Keep practicing! NHB

I understood about 90%. You did a very good job at pronunciation, especially at longer more complicated words that can give others some problems. However, one word that was a little off was "noteriety". It should be "no-ter-I-etee" with a long "I" sound - you get had a slightly different vowel sound. Last, make sure to practice "r" and "l" sounds like in "reason" and "around". Also, in "fame" the "f" sounded a little like a "p" sound. Overall, good job. NHB

[455] 2010-03-17 00:30:07 - LISTEN

I understood about 80%. You spoke very clearly and at a good speed. However, sometimes your "r" and "l" sounds were confused, like in the word "roofs" and the phrase "will never". Also, in the word "painful" the "f" also had a "p" sound when it should not. These are just a few small things. Keep practicing! NHB

[454] 2010-03-16 13:48:18 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. Again, there were just a few errors. The "th" sounded like an "s" in the word "thought". The first time you said "bird" I think you mixed the "r" and "l" sounds, but the rest of the time you said it correctly. Last, the word "commit" should have an emphasis on the last syllable, so that it is "ca-MIT" (the other way makes it sound like "comet"). NHB

I understood about 95%. You spoke very clearly and did an excellent job of correcting yourself along the way. There were just a few words that were a little off: "protecting" was not that clear- it should be "pro-TECK-ting", "escape" should sound like "ess-kape" - the "k" sound should be stronger. Last, the "i" in "admirable" should sound like the "i" in "like" or "right". Overall though, good job! NHB

I understood about 85%. You spoke at a very good pace and for the most part were very clear (although sometimes it sounded like you were whispering). Some corrections: "walked" should have an "l" sound; "ripe" has a long "i" sound like the "I" in "I am leaving"; and "sour" should sound like "sow [rhymes with cow]-er". Very nice - keep practicing! NHB

[447] 2010-03-14 13:45:15 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. You spoke very well and at a good speed. There were just a few places that needed a little better pronunciation. "Couldn't" needs a stronger "t" sound at the end, which signifies that it is a negative word. Also, "an agreeable" blended together, the "w" in the last "would" needs to be pronounced and sometimes the "l" in Fuller disappears. These are just some small things, but once they're fixed, it will be perfect. NHB

[446] 2010-03-13 04:50:04 - LISTEN

I understood about 80%. I would recommend speaking a little more slowly. Sometimes you skipped over smaller words like "a" and once you switched the words "bat" and "bird". Also, "caught" should sound like "cawt" - your mouth should be more open, and the vowel sound should drag out a little bit. It should sound different than "cut". "Begged" should sound like "begd" and "moral" should sound like "more-al". Also, you pronounced "wind" like "a wind-up toy" but here "wind" is a part of the weather, and so the vowel sound should be very short. NHB

I understood about 100%. You have a very clear voice and great pronunciation. I would suggest that when reading a story out loud to read a little more slowly. The only word that was a little difficult to understand is "notoriety" - make sure the first "t" is a little stronger. NHB

I understood about 80%. You did a very good job reading, and the only problem was understanding some of the pronunciations. I suggest practicing vowel sounds a little more because they were close-sounding, but sometimes just a little off, like in "considered" and "awkward." Also watch the "th" sound because sometimes it sounded like a "d" sound. The word "quarters" was missing the "-ers" at the end, and the "l" in "flour" was not clear. Overall, this was very nice. NHB

I understood about 55%. My biggest suggestion is to just keep practicing. You will become more confident in you pronunciation and talk more naturally. Keep practicing at a slow speed and focus on saying the words correctly. You can always speed up later. "Edge" should sound like "edg" with no extra vowel sound on the end. "Several" should sound like "sev-er-al". "Us" should sound like "uh-s", where you drop you jaw open to make the first vowel sound. Lastly, your "p" sounds were often said like "f" sounds, as in pond, pelting and sport. NHB

"Several" should sound like "sev-er-al" and "death" should sound like "deth" with a short "e" sound like in "bed" or "red". It would also help if you spoke a little more evenly. Two main things that I noticed: You often replaced "p" for "f" so farmer and found sounded like parmer and pound. Also, the "th" sound was replaced with "s" so that think and wealth sounded like sink and wells. Continue to practice and it'll be perfect in no time! NHB

And "certain" you said "curtain", the beginning "cer" should sound like "sir", "sir...tain". And the word "cure" should sound like "kyoor". Many times they all ran together, and it was difficult to know where one word ended and another started. For example "can or not" sounded like "cannerot". There were just a few pronunciation mistakes. The r and l sounds were mixed up sometimes. Also, "crowed" should sound like crow (like the black bird), so "crow'd". I could understand everything you read, but I have a few suggestions to ease communication. You tend to pronounce "leave" and "live" the same way (with an EE sound). "Live" should have more of an "ih" sound (rhyming with "give"). Also, sometimes the R sound at the beginning of a word sounds more like an L (for example, you pronounce "wrongs" long like "longs.") In general, though, your pronunciation is excellent. JJ

I understood about 50%. You should pronounce your words more clearly, and take time to say each one. Sometimes they blended together, like in the last sentence and I could not understand any of them. The word "jupiter" should have a stronger emphasis on the first syllable, like "JU-pit-r". Watch your "p" sounds - sometimes they sounded like "f", and sometimes your "l" sounded like "r" (like in "loved"). Also, the "qu" sound in queen and request should sound like "kw". Keep practicing! I understood 40%. It is very hard to understand you without reading along with the text. Part of the problem is that you are talking too fast. Some of the words are running together, and some are being mispronounced because you are stumbling over them. Also, it is hard to understand the sentences because they are being read with all the same tone of voice. This story has a very good ending, but it sounds like you are reading just a bunch of words that don't mean anything. Some pronunciation problems I heard specifically were that the "v" sounded like "b" and "f" sounded like "p". Please speak more slowly - perhaps pretend you are reading a story to a little a child, and that will help you to speak more slowly and carefully. NHB

I understood about 50%. Some things that would help very much is to pause longer between sentences, and to make sure that at the end of a sentence, your voice becomes lower in sound. Both of these things signal to listeners that a sentence is ending. Otherwise it just sounds like on very long sentence. Your pronunciation needs a little more practice, especially the "th" sound (it should not sound like the "d" sound because your tongue should touch your teeth). Also, the word "spendthrift" (which is not used that often anymore in English) should have a stronger "d" at the end of spend, and the vowel sound in "thrift" is a short "i" sound. Your "p" and "f" sounds were mixed in places like "fetch". Keep practicing! NHB

I understood 95-100%. At the very end it sounded like "wealf" instead of "wealth" and loses should sound like "luzez". Very good! I would also recommend slowing down just a little bit, especially when telling a story. That speed is fine for conversations, but can be very fast for a longer story. NHB

[400] 2010-02-28 06:59:49 - LISTEN

I could understand 97%. The word "leisure" is a bit off, it should sound like "lee...sure" not "lay...sure". KSM

[399] 2010-02-27 06:51:34 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. In the beginning, the "w" in woodsman needs to be stronger. Also, your "r" and "l" sounds occasionally get mixed up, like in "river" and "warmly". Make sure you are reading carefully and pronounce each word clearly. Overall, this was a very good job! NHB

[398] 2010-02-27 04:28:27 - LISTEN

I understood about 60%. When I read the text along with the recording, I can understand it much better, so I think your main problem is enunciation. Try saying each word separately. In this recording they all blend together as one long word. Your pronunciation of the words themselves are correct, except that in "villain" the "v" sounded like a "b". NHB

[397] 2010-02-26 20:23:06 - LISTEN

I understood 80%. I would recommend reading a little more carefully, and a little slower. Sometimes words were skipped over or misread, like "with" is missing, and "was" was said instead of "were." There were a couple of pronunciation mistakes: "thirst" needs a stronger "t" sound on the end, and "sour" should sound like "sower." NHB

[396] 2010-02-26 07:27:45 - LISTEN

I understood nearly 100%. Your voice is very clear and your words were pronounced correctly, except for "begged". Your "g" sounded like a "k". Other than that, it was perfect! NHB

[395] 2010-02-26 07:26:22 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. You speak very clearly and at a good pace, which makes it very easy to understand. Overall, there were hardly any problems, except for a few words: "frost" needs to sound like "frawst" for the vowel sound. "Miserable" should sound like "miz-ra-bil" and "perishing of cold" kind of blended together and it was difficult to hear clearly. This was a very good recording! NHB

[394] 2010-02-26 03:18:31 - LISTEN

I could understand 70%. You seemed to struggle in the beginning but got the pace down near the end. The word "aviary" should be "a...ve...air...e". Also some words have letters that are silent, "villain" and "deceive" for example. "villain", the "a" is silent and "deceive", the "i" is silent. KSM

[393] 2010-02-26 03:18:00 - LISTEN

I understood about 50%. You spoke at a good pace and with good expression. However, there were some pronunciations problems, especially with vowels. For example, "taunted" should sound like "tawn-ted" where your jaw drops a little. "Plumage" should sound like "ploo-midg". "Denying" is "dee-ni (with a long i) -ing". Also, watch your "r" and "l" sounds, like in "brilliant" and "rooster". NHB

[392] 2010-02-26 03:01:11 - LISTEN

I understood about 50%. One thing that will help very much is to have the sentence end on a low note. The end of each word and sentence ended on a high note, and that can be confusing to hear. Also, make sure to say the end of the word. Sometimes it was difficult to hear, like the "d" in birds, and "v" in deceive. Some pronunciation corrections: "profession" should sound like "pro-fes-shun"; "villian" should sound like "vil-lan" (make sure there are no "r" sounds); and "disguise" should sound like "dis-gize". Keep practicing! NHB

[391] 2010-02-26 01:35:54 - LISTEN

I understood 85%. You spoke very clearly and at a nice pace. There were just a few mistakes: the "p" and "f" sounds were mixed up, like in posses and open. Make sure your lips are closed all the way when making the "p" sound. Also, some vowel sounds were a little off. Like "loses" should sound like "looozes" and "said" should sound like "sed." NHB

[388] 2010-02-25 07:42:08 - LISTEN

I could understand 100% of what you read, but I have a few suggestions to ease communication. At times, the L sound in a word is pronounced more like an R and vice versa. For example, "dullness" sounded more like "durness," "rooster" like "looster." Also, sometimes you pronounce the "th" sound at the beginning of a word more like a "d". For example, "they" sounds more like "day," "then" like "den." In general, though, your pronunciation is quite good. JJ

[387] 2010-02-25 07:39:50 - LISTEN

I could understand about 70%. Some of the words are missing their ending sound, words that end in "d" and "t". The word "sleek" does not sound right, it is similar to the word "leak" and is "s...leek". Also the word "combing" doesn't sound right, it is pronounced as "kohm...ing". KSM

[386] 2010-02-25 03:50:31 - LISTEN

I understood about 60%. Again, I would recommend speaking much more slowly and saying each word separately. The words all blend together and sound like one long word. Also, many times your "r" sounded like "l". Also, "wolf" is missing the "w". To make the "w" sound, keep your lips closer together and then open them wide while breathing out. Some other words that need work: "plausible" should sound like "plaw-za-bil", and "retorted" should sound like "re-tor-ted". Keep practicing and you will sound much better! NHB

In general, though, your pronunciation is very good. JJ

[384] 2010-02-25 02:56:10 - LISTEN

[383] 2010-02-24 23:52:45 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. You spoke at a very good speed. One thing to practice is the "p" sound. Many times is sounded like "f" (for example in the words protect and plan). The word "important" should have the emphasis on the middle syllable: im-POR-tant. Lastly, "admirable" should sound like "ad-my-ra-bil". NHB

[382] 2010-02-24 22:42:13 - LISTEN

Keep practicing and eventually there will be less pauses. NHB

I understood about 50%. The main problem is that your words all run together, so it sounds like one very long word. I would recommend speaking more slowly, and saying each word separately. This might sound silly, but it will help improve your pronunciation overall. Some things I did notice is "used" should sound like "us'd", "allowance" should sound like "a-LOW-ens", and your "f" should be stronger. Keep practicing and it will improve! NHB

[375] 2010-02-24 01:16:30 - LISTEN

I could understand about 75%. The word "bell" you kept on saying "ball", it should be "bell". Also the word "strutted" is missing the ending "ed" sound...."strutt..ed". And finally the part where it says "i wouldn't" you say "it wouldn't" instead, it should be "i". KSM

[374] 2010-02-24 01:15:40 - LISTEN

I could understand 98%. The word "whiten" should sound more like "white...in". And also the word "agreeable" you made it sound like "agreedable", there is no "d" sound in "agree...able". KSM

[373] 2010-02-23 22:31:49 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. You spoke very clearly, although the recording was a little quiet. There were only a few pronunciation mistakes - otherwise it was perfect. The "Goat" in "Goatherd" should have a longer "o" sound, where your lips are little more rounded and closer together. "Disgusted" should sound like "dis-guss-ted" and "rascals" should sound like "rass-calz". Keep practicing. It is almost perfect! NHB

[372] 2010-02-23 19:51:36 - LISTEN

I could understand 98%. Only one word is off here, the word "wise". You actually said "wish" but it should sound like "wa" and "eyes", "wise". Also the audio is a bit quiet, try turning up your volume. KSM

[370] 2010-02-23 09:53:39 - LISTEN

I understood 85-90%. You spoke very clearly and loudly! A few corrections to work on: "goddess" should sound like "god-dess" (it sounded like you had an "n" in the word) and "had you" was blended together and sounded like "hassu". Overall, very nice. NHB

[369] 2010-02-23 09:52:18 - LISTEN

I was able to understand about 80% of what you read. I noticed that sometimes the "o" sound in a word was pronounced more like a "u" ("fortune" sounded more like "furtune") Also, "touched" should have one syllable rather than 2. A major barrier to understanding was the way the words were short and separated--as you practice more, try connecting them a bit more smoothly. This will make it much easier for a listener. You're certainly on the right track, though. JJ

[368] 2010-02-23 09:37:14 - LISTEN

I could understand about 60% of what you read. There were some longer words in this one, and it can be difficult when you might not be familiar with them. Here are some pronunciation tips: "discussed" sounds like "dis-CUST"; attacks (a-TACKS); several (SEV-rul); suggestions (suh-JES-chuns); debated (de-BAY-ted); future (FYU-chur); decided (de-SIDE-ed); admirable (AD-mir-a-ble). You're off to a great start, though. Keep practicing. JJ

[367] 2010-02-23 07:29:33 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. You spoke very clearly and have a nice reading voice. There were just a few mistakes. "Determined" should sound like "dee-TER-mend". "Climbed" should sound like "climd" with a long "i" sound. "Pretended" should sound like "pree-TEN-dead". Lastly, the "r" sound was used instead of "l". This only happened towards the end of the recording, in the phrase "long as you like" and other "l" words around it. Overall, very nice, just keep practicing! NHB

[366] 2010-02-23 05:07:22 - LISTEN

[365] 2010-02-23 04:58:11 - LISTEN

I understood about 60-65%. Try slowing down a little when you are talking. Especially at the beginning, your words ran together so they sounded like one very long word that was hard to understand. Even though you might think it sounds silly to talk very slowly, it will help your pronunciation, and make you sound more clear. Then you can try to speak a little faster. Also, make sure to watch you "r" sounds - sometime "crow" sounded like "claw". NHB

[364] 2010-02-23 03:16:01 - LISTEN

I understood about 40%. However, when I read the text along with your recording, I could understand about 80%. The biggest thing to work on is your reading voice. There wasn't a lot of expression, so it was difficult to tell when sentences were beginning and ending, and when someone was talking in the story. It is a silly story, but it was read in a very serious tone, which also made it confusing to understand. You only had a few pronunciation mistakes: "dressed" should sound like "dresst", and you said the "f" sound instead of the "p" sound in the section "proper to his profession, presented." Keep practicing and you will greatly improve! NHB

[363] 2010-02-23 03:08:49 - LISTEN

I could easily understand 100% of what you read. However, I noticed that sometimes you pronounce the "th" sound at the beginning of a word more like a "d" ("the" and "they" sounded more like "da" and "day"). Otherwise, you come across clear and confident. JJ

[362] 2010-02-22 21:53:56 - LISTEN

I understood about 40%. You read slowly, which was good and helpful. However, there were many mispronunciations which made it hard to understand what was being said. Some examples: "fetch" sounded like "ferch", and went and what sounded similar in this recording. I would recommend focusing on vowel pronunciation - many times a different vowel sound can make one word sound like another! At the end of spendthrift, practice the "th" sound and make that last "t" stronger. Even though you may be uncomfortable speaking very slowly, take time to say the whole word. Sometimes the end of the words were skipped over and it made it difficult for me to understand. NHB

[361] 2010-02-22 06:43:41 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. The recording was very quiet, even with the volume turned all the way up, so it was difficult to hear you in some places. Plumage should sound like "ploo-madg", "Denying" should sound like "dee-ny-ing" and "Feathers" should sound like "fethers" (with a short "e" sound). Keep working on pronunciation! NHB

[360] 2010-02-22 04:50:42 - LISTEN

I understood about 50%. Your words often run together and it is hard to understand. Try saying each word more slowly and separately. It will sound strange at first, but once the words are said clearly, then you can talk faster. Also, watch out for you "r" and "l" sounds which get a little mixed up. Lastly, the word "sow" was pronounced correctly if you are talking about an action, like "sowing the field". However, in this story it talks about at animal, and the word "sow" should rhyme with the animal "cow". English is frustrating in that the same word can have different pronunciations! NHB

[359] 2010-02-22 03:03:33 - LISTEN

I understood about 50%. Keep practicing pronunciation, especially for words you are not familiar with. In "Charcoal-burner", make sure your "r" and "l" sounds do not get mixed up. Also, your "b" sounds sometime sound like "f" (like in blackened). The phrase: "finding that he was an agreeable sort of fellow, asked him if he would come and share his house" was hard to understand because there was some mispronunciation, but also, it sounded like you were reciting a list of words that did not belong together. The better you understand what the sentence is saying, the better you can express it to the listener. NHB

[358] 2010-02-22 02:16:16 - LISTEN

I understood about 65%. The word "wolf" is missing the "w" sound in the front. I would recommend slowing down when saying more complicated words to make sure you are pronouncing them correctly. For example, the phrase "devoured it without more ado" was hard to understand. Also, the "p" and "f" sounds were mixed up, and so were the "l" and "r" sounds in some places. Keep practicing! NHB

[357] 2010-02-22 00:14:38 - LISTEN

I understood about 80%. You read very nicely, but just make sure you are reading carefully. Sometimes small words like "to" are skipped over, and in one place, the phrase "just to show" was not read at all. Make sure the whole word is being said - the first time you said "cheese" it was hard to understand. It should sound like "cheeez" and the "z" sound wasn't heard as clearly. The rest of the time it was said correctly. The word "doubt" should sound like "dowt" and lastly, this sentence was hard to understand: Her beauty is without equal, the hue of her plumage exquisite. What would help is making sure you have a little pause after the word "equal". NHB

[356] 2010-02-22 00:11:33 - LISTEN

I understood about 75%. You started off very well, but it seemed like you had some difficulties towards the end. Overall your pronunciation was good - just three words need some practice: "possess" should sound like "po-zess"; "hoped" should have a long "o" sound in "hopt", and the first vowel sound in "farmer" needs to be more open. Lastly, watch your "r" and "l" sounds. Many times they were mixed up. NHB

"Reward" should sound like "ree-ward". "Notoriety" should sound like "no-ter-I-itee". "Mistaken" should sound like "mis-take-n". There were more words that had a few problems, so just make sure to read slowly and practice some of the words that you are unsure about. NHB

I could understand about 75% of what you read. I think the main difficulty I had was that sometimes you add an extra syllable to the end of a word, which makes the words blend together a bit when you speak quickly (for example, give-ah, poisonous-ah, please-ah). I noticed that sometimes your P sound in a word was pronounced more like an F ("ViPer" sounded more like "ViFer") Also, "jealous" should sound more like "jell-us." I understood about 95%. Your voice was very clear, and speaking slowly helped me to understand just about everything. There were just a few problems with some vowel sounds in consulting (the "u" should sound like it does in "pull") and presence (the first "e" should be shorter like in "get"). Also, only once did I hear your r and l sounds get mixed, in the word "claimant". Overall, this was very good. NHB

[329] 2010-02-18 15:39:23 - LISTEN

I could understand 90%. The word "an" you actually said "on", it is "an" like the word "annie" or "ant". Also the word "said" is actually pronounced more like "s-ed". Finally the word "expenses" is plural, you only said "expense". KSM

[328] 2010-02-18 08:40:19 - LISTEN

I was able to understand everything you read; you spoke quite clearly and confidently. I did notice that at times, you pronounce the "th" sound more like a "d" ("the" was pronunced more like "da"). Also, the word "quench" was pronounced like "kench"--it should actually sound more like "kwench." You're certainly on the right track, though. JJ

I understood about 70%. The "b" in "combing" and "comb" is silent. "Own" should start with the "o" sound, like "oh-n". The word "profit" should sound like "prof-it". And lastly, "oats" needs to have an "s" at the end so the listener knows it is a plural word. Also, there are many long pauses in the middle of sentences, which makes it sound like the sentences has finished, even though it has not. Keep practicing at a slow pace to work on pronunciation. NHB

[325] 2010-02-18 05:07:55 - LISTEN

I understood about 70%. Overall, it sounded nice. A few main things to work on: make sure the end of the words are clear. Sometimes they fade a little bit and it is hard to hear them clearly. Also, make sure your "f" sounds don't sound like "b" sounds. This was especially important in this story because one of the characters is a "fuller" and sometimes it sounded like a "bowler". Lastly, "diminished" should sound like "dee-MIN-isht". Keep practicing! NHB

I understood about 90%. The word "presence" should sound like "PREZ-ence" with all short "e" sounds. Also, the word "article" sound sound like "ar-tikel". Finally, make sure you read carefully. In the last part of the story, sometimes you read "she" when it should be "he". It also seemed like the last part was a little challenging - it's okay to read slowly! Overall, good job. NHB

[319] 2010-02-17 22:11:01 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. Sometimes your "th" sounded like "d", for example in the word "weather." Also the phrase "he went and sold it" was very hard to understand. Make sure the words are separate enough so I can tell what the words are. Overall though this was good! NHB

[318] 2010-02-17 22:07:00 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. The "d" at the end of "birds" should be stronger, and so should the "k" at the end of "sick". Both just faded away at the end. Also, the phrase "We will do very well" was said very quickly and the first time I heard it, the words ran together. Overall, however, this was very good! NHB

[317] 2010-02-17 22:04:11 - LISTEN

I understood 90%. You have a very good speaking voice. There were just a few pronunciation mistakes. The vowel "u" in "dullness" should be a short "u" like in pull, kind of like "uh". Also, the "th" sound in "feathers" and "earth" sounded more like "t". Keep practicing and it'll be perfect! NHB

[316] 2010-02-17 22:01:42 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. The main problem was that the "w" sound was missing from "wolf". To make the sound, start by making your lips very tight and round, and while breathing out, open your mouth just a bit wider (because it's followed by the "o". If you were saying "wider" you would open up your mouth even wider). As a side note, the recording cut out just after "I'm not going without..." so I could not judge your pronunciation for that last sentence. NHB

[315] 2010-02-17 21:57:44 - LISTEN

I understood nearly 100%. The only problem was the phrase "look sleek" ran together and sounded like one word. Make sure you have just a tiny pause between the two words. Otherwise, this was great! NHB

[314] 2010-02-17 20:12:44 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. Overall, you speed and clarity were very good, but there were many minor errors that made it hard to understand. "Strutted" needs a stronger "t" sound in the middle, "Reward" should sound like "ree-ward", "Presence" has short e sounds like in "peg", would was missiong the "w". Keep practicing and soon there won't be any errors! NHB

[313] 2010-02-17 09:29:03 - LISTEN

I understood 95%. Overall, this was very well done. However, there were a few minor mistakes. "Above" should have a stronger "b" sound. "Plumage" should sound like "ploo-madg", and "caw" should have a lighter vowel sound - your mouth should hang open more. These are just a few things to work on. NHB

[312] 2010-02-17 09:23:07 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. Sometimes your vowel sounds were a little off, like in "claimed" where it should be a long "a" sound, like in "make". Also, the word "sow" is pronounced correctly as the verb, like "to sow the field". However, the animal "sow" is pronounced so that is rhymes with "cow" (and "how"). This is confusing in English when words spelled the same way are pronounced differently! NHB

[311] 2010-02-17 09:22:06 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. You read very nicely and carefully. You also had very good expressions in your voice when reading. There were a lot of background noises in your recording which made it a little distracting. However, you only had a few mispronunciations. The vowel sound in "bird" should be a short "i" sound. That same sound is in the word "wind" which you also need to work on. Also, "commit" should sound like "ka-MIT". NHB

[310] 2010-02-17 09:19:38 - LISTEN

[309] 2010-02-17 08:41:25 - LISTEN

I understood about 70%. The words "totally" and "consulting" should sound like "TOE-tally" and "con-SULL-ting". Also, the "l" sometimes sounded like an "r", like in the word "claimant." Lastly, sometimes you paused at awkward times in the sentence, which broke it apart unnaturally and made it difficult to understand. Try finding the end of a phrase to pause instead of in the middle. NHB

I was about to understand about 65% of what you read. I noticed that sometimes the syllables in the words were switched around or dropped. This can happen often when words are new to you. Here's a quick pronunciation guide for some of the key words: "portion" should be por-shun; "allowance" is uh-low-ence (with the middle syllable rhyming with cow); "profit" is "prah-fit"; "condition" is cun-dih-shun; "comb" should rhyme with home; "feed" should rhyme with need. I also noticed that sometimes the "th" sound at the beginning of a word was pronounced more like a "d" ("the" and "there" sounded more like "da" and "dere." JJ

I understood about 95%. You spoke slowly and clearly which helped a lot. There were just a few mispronunciations: possess sounded like "purchase" - it should sound like "po-zess"; and "bird" I heard the "l" instead of the "r". Overall, good job. I would recommend that you continue to practice at a slower pace, and then gradually build up to a little quicker talking speed. NHB

I understood about 90%. Your voice is very clear and easy to understand. The words "awkward" and "at last" need better pronunciation (the first "w" was missing in "awkward" and the vowel sound was wrong in "last"). Also, "flour" should sound like "flower". Overall, good job! NHB

[299] 2010-02-17 00:53:25 - LISTEN

I understood 95%. You spoke clearly and with good intonation. There were just a few pronunciation errors: "possess" should be pronounced "po-zess" (it sounded like you had a "ch" sound in it); watch your "l" and "r" sounds in the middle of words, for example in bird and gold; and occasionally your "th" sounds were pronounced as "d" sounds. Overall, good work. NHB

[298] 2010-02-16 22:54:09 - LISTEN

I understood nearly 100%. You spoke at a nice, slow speed and that made it easy to understand. The only little mistake I heard was in "replied" where the "l" sounded like an "r". In the future, once you are comfortable, you could try speaking at a quicker speed. Overall, very good! NHB

I understood about 40%. You spoke at a nice speed, but you really need to work on pronunciation! Try sounding out the words ahead of time and make sure you are reading carefully. For example, the word "show" you said "slow" and "loud" you said "long." Also, try reading more slowly when you come across longer words that you are not sure about, like "exquisite" should sound like "X-kwiz-it" and "intelligence" should sound like "in-tell-e-gence." With practice, it will sound better! NHB

[295] 2010-02-16 05:26:36 - LISTEN

I understood about 50%. Keep practicing your pronunciation. There were many words that need attention: in "clipping" the p sounded like a k. "Stole", "comb" and "oats" should have a long O sound (so that it sound like how you say the letter "o"). "Allowance" should sound like "a-low-ans" and "cried" needs to have a stronger D sound at the end. Lastly, your voice went up and down often while you were speaking. With more practice it should be a bit more level. NHB

I could easily understand 100% of what you read; however, I have a few suggestions to ease communication. First, I noticed that sometimes you add an extra syllable to the end of words hit-eh, fox-eh, just-eh, etc.). Also, at times you pronounce the "th" sound at the beginning of a word more like a "d"; for example, "them" was pronounced more like "dem." I could understand about 75% of what you read; I would suggest slowing down a little for now--this will make it a bit easier for a listener. I have a few suggestions to ease communication. First, sometimes you pronounce the "th" sound at the beginning of a word more like a "d"; for example, "there" sounded more like "dare." Also, I noticed that sometimes words are left out as you read; for example, "he was A great nuisance" (the A was missing). Slowing down should help this as well. Finally, sometimes you leave a consonant sound out of a word; for example, I could not hear the second R in "rewaRd," which made it more difficult to understand the word. You're certainly on the right track, though. JJ

One thing to work on later is the sound of the sentence. Many times your voice went up and down and it was hard to gather the meaning of the sentence. Keep practicing and it should improve. NHB

I understood about 50%. You started the words very clearly, but then the middle and end were jumbled and hard to here. For example "blind" sounded like "blin" - missing the "d" at the end. "Finer" is missing the "r" at the end. Many times the "r" and "l" sounds were exchanged, like is "last" and "rate." Focus on the pronounciation of the whole word, and it will greatly improve. NHB

I was able to understand about 60% of what you read. There were a few pronunciation issues that got in the way of communication. First, sometimes your "th"s are pronounced more like "d"s ("The" sounded more like "da"). Also, sometimes you add an "s" sound to the end of a word; "each" sounded more like "is", "sow" like "sows", and "said" like "says". Finally, there were two phrases that I completely missed that you might want to practice a bit: "than those of" and "at any rate." JJ

[279] 2010-02-11 16:00:01 - LISTEN

I could only understand about 60%. It is hard to make comments with the audio quality. The quality makes it hard for me to hear if you got the ending sounds. The word "cottage" is a bit off, it should be "cot-tage" or simply "ka-tij". Also "wolf" seems a bit off, it is simply "wulf" not "woo-lf". KSM

[278] 2010-02-11 05:29:25 - LISTEN

I could understand about 75% of what you read. I think the main difficulty I had was that often the last consonant sound in a word was so soft that the words blended together a bit. For example, I could barely hear the last sounds in "caT hearD" and "himselF," or the T in "quarTers." Also, sometimes, you add an extra syllable to the end of a word (was-ah, could-ah, this-ah). I'd recommend slowing down and spacing the words out a little for now, until you can be sure that you're getting those final sounds. You're definitely on the right track, though! JJ

The word "sow" is pronounced correctly as it is used as a verb (like sowing the field) but in this case it is a noun referring to an animal, and it has a different sound. English can be frustrating when two words that are spelled the same sound different. "Sow" in this case should rhyme with the animal "cow" and when you say it, your jaw should drop a little. The birds are saying "We will do very well ... when we've seen the last of you." But in between there's the phrase -they replied, without letting him in- and because it breaks up the sentence, the words should be said all at the same pitch. I was able to understand about 70% of what was read; I have a few suggestions to ease communication. First, "crow" should pronounced with a long O sound, to rhyme with "toe" and "low"--you tend to pronounce it more like "craw." Also, sometimes, the consonant sound at the end of a word was not strong enough, making the words blue together a bit. I noticed this particularly with the T sound ("set his wits" "looked"). Lastly, sometimes the TH sound in a word was pronounced more like a D ("the" was pronounced more like "da"). JJ

[260] 2010-02-09 21:17:40 - LISTEN

I understood 50%. First, I would recommend slowly down a little. Sometimes you seem too rushed and stumble over words, or don't have enough time to think about the pronunciation. Some other things to work on: The word "bat" sounded like "bet," which have very different meanings. The sounds are only slightly different. The word "weasel" should be pronounced "wee-zil." A couple of times it sounded like "wizard." Make sure you are comfortable pronouncing the main words of the story, because that will increase listener comprehension. Also, "wind" does not have a "ee" sound, just a short "i" sound; and "begged" should sound like "beg'd." NHB

[259] 2010-02-09 11:52:43 - LISTEN

I understood 90%. You have a wonderful speaking voice that is very clear and at a good speed. A few things to work on: the "r" in the beginning of the word "reach" sounded more like an "l" sound (however, all your other "r" and "l" sounds were great!); "missed" should sound like "miss'd" (almost like "mist"); and the "th" sound in "with" sounded like "ch". Overall it was very good, just a few corrections to practice! NHB

[258] 2010-02-09 10:41:29 - LISTEN

I understood about 70%. One suggestion is to keep practicing your "l" and "r" sounds - many times the wrong one was said, like in "prey" and "lofty". Also "perched" is "prech'd" (almost like percht). NHB

[257] 2010-02-09 08:21:59 - LISTEN

I understood about 90-95%. You did an excellent job. Your words were very clear and you spoke at a good speed. You seemed to get a little mixed up at the end, but you corrected yourself. Just a few pronunciation corrections: "coming" should sound like "ka-ming" and "whom" should sound like "hoom". Great work! NHB

[256] 2010-02-09 06:21:22 - LISTEN

I could understand about 65%. Some words are said wrong such as "neighbourhood", "besides", "diminished", "expenses", "whiten" and "blackened". You are making good progress though and these words are actually higher level words. Keep practicing and you will get better. KSM

[255] 2010-02-09 05:29:06 - LISTEN

I understood about 80%. You spoke at well and clearly. Some pronunciation things to work on: "begged" should sound like "bagd". "Enemy" should sound like "en-em-ee" (like saying the letters: N-M-E). And "principle" should sound like "prin-se-pil". Overall, good work and keep practicing! NHB

[253] 2010-02-09 02:54:28 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. You spoke very clearly and at a slower pace which allowed me to understand each word you were saying. Just a couple mispronunciations: "injury" should have more emphasis on the "in" part like "IN-jury". Also there was a little stumbling in the phrase "what you would have been like". Overall, you did a wonderful job! NHB

[252] 2010-02-09 01:06:37 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. You spoke very clearly and pronounced almost every work correctly. It was very easy to understand you. One suggestion to work on is the "l" sound. Many times it sounded like the "r" sound, or a sound in between. This story had "l" sounds in words used many times, like bell and plan. Once you feel more comfortable, you can slightly increase your talking speed to make it at a more conversational speed. Great job! NHB

[251] 2010-02-09 00:58:40 - LISTEN

I could understand 98%. The word "caw" you instead say "cow"....it is the sound a crow makes, it should sound like a crow..."caw". Also you could slow it down a bit, while you didn't make any mistakes, there is no need to rush. KSM

[250] 2010-02-08 19:49:33 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%-100%. Again, you spoke very nice and clearly, and I understood everything except the word "portion" was missing the "r" so it sounded like "potion." This confused me at first and I had trouble figuring out the sentence, but one I realized you meant "portion" I could understand it. NHB

[249] 2010-02-08 16:31:09 - LISTEN

I understood about 60%. The hardest part was that I could not understand some of the key words, so it was difficult to understand the story as a whole. The word Mercury had the l and r sound mixed up at the end of the word. The word statue sometimes is missing the "oo" sound at the end. "Wooden" is missing the w sound in front. Lastly, the word "god" is very difficult to understand. Practicing the key words of the story will help. NHB

[248] 2010-02-08 12:02:21 - LISTEN

I was able to understand 95% of what you read, although this may have been due to recording issues. I have just a few suggestions to improve communication. At times, you pronounce the L sound in a word as an R; for example, the word "long" sounded more like "wrong." Additionally, the "w" sound was dropped from the beginning of words; for example, "wouldn't" was pronounced more like "ouldn't." I think on a better recording, however, you would come across quite clearly, as you speak at a good pace for understanding. JJ

[247] 2010-02-08 10:18:52 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. My first recommendation is to slow down! Although you had good pronunciaiton for the most part, it was difficult to hear a whole story being read very fast. Besides that, there were just a few things to work on: "grapes" should have a long "a" sound; and "quench" should sound like "kwench". NHB

[246] 2010-02-08 05:14:45 - LISTEN

I understood about 75%. There were just a few words that were mispronounced: "Birth" needs a strong "th" sound - here it sounded like an "s". "Cruel" should sound like "croo-el," and "Injury" should sound like "in-jur-ee." The word "quite" was accidently pronounced like "quiet." Lastly, a few places had an "r" sound instead of an "l" sound, for example, the word "like." Keep working on pronunciations and reading carefully. NHB

[245] 2010-02-08 02:07:58 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. You spoke at a very nice speed. There were just a few mispronunciations: the phrases "his spurs" and "full gallop" ran together and it was a little difficult to hear the two words. Also, the "p" like in "present" had an "f" sound when it shouldn't. Lastly, the phrase "all right" also blended together. It can be hard to say the "r" sound right after the "l" sound - try putting in a little pause between them. NHB

[244] 2010-02-08 01:36:39 - LISTEN

I could understand 90%. The word "agreeable" is a bit off, you said "agreyable", it is simply "a..gree,,,uh...bul. Also the word "diminished" is missing the "n" sound, you only say "dimished". KSM

[243] 2010-02-07 16:57:38 - LISTEN

I could understand 85%. The word "vine" you said "vain" instead, it should just be "v...eye...n, or like the word "wine" just with a "v". Also the word "missed" should only be just one flowing word. KSM

[242] 2010-02-07 02:55:37 - LISTEN

I could understand 80%. Most of your words are good but a few parts were hard to understand. The line, ""I never let a mouse go." is not clear when you say this line, I think you might want to take a pause. Also the "commit", it is missing the "t" sound at the end of it. Make sure to speak clearly and announciate each word. KSM

[241] 2010-02-07 02:32:02 - LISTEN

I understood about 60%. Keep practicing at this same speed until you are more confidenct in your pronunciations. There were a few times towards the end of this sample that I had trouble understanding some phrases and sentences because the words ran together. Continue to practice reading and speaking carefully, and it will improve. NHB

[240] 2010-02-07 00:29:41 - LISTEN

I could easily understand everything you read; however, I have a few suggestions to ease communication. First, I noticed that some consonant sounds aren't as strong as they should be; for example, I could not hear the P in "graPes," which made it sound more like "graves." Also, sometimes you pronounce the "th" sound at the beginning of a word more like a "d"--for example, "the" sounded more like "da" or "de." You're on the right track, though, and with practice you'll come across much smoother and more confident. JJ

[239] 2010-02-06 02:46:03 - LISTEN

I understood about 65-70%. The biggest thing to watch for is the -ed endings on words. Most of the time they are just a "d" sound at the end - pretend the "e" isn't there. For example, "lived" is "liv'd", "worked" is "workt" and "happened" is "happend". Some other words to correct are: "burner" which should sound like "bur-ner" (watch your b and r sounds!); "agreeable" should sound like "a-gree-a-bil"; and "besides" should sound like "bee-sidz". You read at a good pace, so just keep practicing those pronunciations! NHB

[238] 2010-02-06 01:59:08 - LISTEN

I could understand 98%. Only one small mistake, the word "quite" is not the same as "quiet". You said "quiet". This word "quite" is pronounced like "cu-white". KSM

[237] 2010-02-05 21:58:37 - LISTEN

I understood about 80%. There were a few places were the R and L sounds were mixed. The biggest suggestion is to slow down speaking. Sometimes it felt very rushed and was hard to understand because you were talking so quickly. Keep practicing and try to slow down just a little bit. NHB

[236] 2010-02-05 00:24:34 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. Very nice work. A few pronunciations to work on: "once" should have a "w" sound in front, like "wonse"; "Awkward" was missing the second w sound. NHB

[235] 2010-02-04 22:49:07 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. Even though I could understand almost all of it, it would be very helpful if you could slow down when you are speaking. It was very fast and hard to hear everything. There were a couple of mispronunciations: "michievous" in the title should sound like "mis-chev-is" and "notoriety" should sound like "no-tor-i-ety". Overall, nicely done! NHB

[234] 2010-02-04 08:09:16 - LISTEN

I could understand 95%. You have the words down however you make a few too many pauses. I think with a bit more practice you will not have to make as many pauses and can make it flow better. KSM

[233] 2010-02-04 06:01:06 - LISTEN

I understood about 80%. You did a very good job speaking clearly. Your first sentence was perfect! It seems that you have the most trouble with longer, more complicated words. "Nuisance" should sound like "noo-sans"; "Presence" should sound like "prez-ens"; "tinkling" should sound like "tink-ling" (with all short "i" sounds); "behaved" should sound like "bee-hav'd" (with a long "a" sound); and "notoriety" should sound like "no-ter-i-etee" (the "i" is a long i sound). Once you get more comfortable with longer words, you will be great! NHB

I could understand everything that you read, though I have a few suggestions to improve communication. I noticed that at times the L sound in a word is pronounced more like an R; I noticed this especially in the words several, should, council, and bell. Also, "One" should be pronounced more like "won" rather than "own." However, you're definitely on the right track. JJ

I could understand 90%. I would slow it down it bit, you were speaking so fast, it was hard for me to follow. Also one word seems to be off, the word "diminished" you only said "dimished", it was missing the "n" sound to it. KSM

[229] 2010-02-03 23:31:17 - LISTEN

I understood nearly 100%. The only mistake I heard was the word "cruel" which should sound like "croo-el". Otherwise, this was great! You spoke very clearly, with good expression and at a nice pace. NHB

[228] 2010-02-03 10:40:37 - LISTEN

I understood 85-90%. For the most part you spoke clearly - the only major error throughout was the pronunciation of "horse" and "horseman." The letter "o" needs to be more round and said in the front of the mouth. In the recording, it sounded more like "hurse" (hearse), which has a very different meaning! NHB

[227] 2010-02-03 07:52:17 - LISTEN

Overall I could only understand about 40%. I think you are not ready for something as difficult as this. From what I could hear, you seem to know the words but at times you loose your place and get lost and skip some words. A bit more practice is needed here before uploading the final version. KSM

[226] 2010-02-03 07:15:03 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. You have a very clear voice. There were only two mistakes that I heard. One is that the wrong word was said in "get all the gold at once" - "goose" was said instead of "gold". The other is to practice your "th" sounds. Many times they sounded like "d". NHB

[225] 2010-02-03 06:34:01 - LISTEN

I could understand 90%. Even though every word was said right, it is very hard to follow with the speed. You might want to talk a little bit slower. [220] 2010-02-02 06:58:31 - LISTEN

I understood about 65-70%. You pronounced "charcoal-burner" very well throughout the entire story. There were just a few pronunciation mistakes: "Agreeable" should be pronounced "a-gree-a-ble" and "met" has a short vowel sound like "bet" or "let." The biggest thing to work on is the rise and fall of your voice. During the sentence your voice went up high too many times, which made it hard to follow. Usually a voice goes up that high at the end of a question, and only slightly up at pauses like commas. Here it just seemed a little over-exaggerated. NHB

[219] 2010-02-02 05:42:14 - LISTEN

I was able to understand about 60% of what you read. I have a few suggestions to ease understanding. First, the "th" sound beginning a word was sometimes pronounced more like a "D"; for example, you pronounce "the" more like "da." Also, sometimes, the last consonant sound in a word was dropped ("fox" sounded more like "fa", "said" like "say")--this can make the words blur together a bit. Additionally, sometimes an extra "eh" sound was added to the end of a word ("grape-eh", "was-eh"). I'd recommend that you continue to take things slowly and try to get each individual word as clear as you can. JJ

I could understand about 65% of what you read. I have a few suggestions to ease communication. First, I noticed that sometimes you add an extra syllable to the end of a word. For example, "dog" becomes "dog-uh", "of" becomes "of-uh," and so on. Also, sometimes a letter in a word is not as strong as it should be, making it a little more difficult to understand; for example, you pronounced "master" more like "matter." JJ

In general, though, you were clear enough that this did not have a large effect on understanding. JJ

[215] 2010-02-01 23:38:56 - LISTEN

I understood about 50-60%. Next time I would suggest speaking slower. You seemed to hesitate often and made some trouble with pronunciation. Slowing down will help you speak more confidently and evenly. Some pronunciation errors: debated should be pronounced "de-bate-ed" with a long "a" sound in the middle. The phrase "several suggestions" sounded like it had a few "b" sounds in it, when it shouldn't have any. Keep practicing, and read a little more slowly. NHB

I understood about 90%. You spoke very well, with nearly perfect pronunciation except for a phrase in the beginning: a Fox observed her and set his wits to work. "Observed" is missing the "v" sound at the end, and the word "wits" sounded like it started with an "s." The words were a little jumbled there and hard for me to understand. The rest was fine. NHB

I understood about 50-60%. The word "charcoal" was missing the "l" sound throughout the reading, and had an "r" sound at the end instead, which made the story difficult to understand. One place that I could not understand was the phrase "finding that he was an agreeable sort of fellow." Speaking more slowly can help, even if it sounds silly at first. Once you are comfortable enough with the words, then speak more quickly. Another word that needs work is "diminished," which should sound like "dee-min-ish'd". Keep practicing! NHB

[190] 2010-01-29 04:24:58 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. There was a loud buzzing noise in the recording, and it would help if you spoke a little louder. Almost all the words were pronounced clearly, and I think your slow talking helped me understand each word. However, the pauses between your words and sentences were the same length - sentences should have a longer pause between to signify to the listener that you are starting a new sentence. A few words that need some work: walking, which had an r sound instead of an l sound; ripe, which should have a long "i" sound, not "ee"; and sour, which should be pronounced sow-er. Keep practicing! NHB

[189] 2010-01-29 03:45:30 - LISTEN

I understood about 80%. Most of the individual words were spoken correctly, but the tone of your voice remained exactly the same while talking, which made it hard to understand the meaning of the sentences. There should be longer pauses between sentences, and your voice should go up and down while talking. Your voice should end a sentence on a low sound. There were a few problem words/areas in pronunciation: quench should sound like "qwench"; missed (and other words the end with the "-ed") should sound like "miss'd" and not "miss-ed"; and walked had an r sound instead of an l sound. Keep practicing, especially with the expression in your voice, and it will be much more clear. NHB

[188] 2010-01-28 22:16:32 - LISTEN

I could understand everything you read, however I noticed that you might want to work on the W and X sounds within a word. At times, "woodman" was pronounced more like "oodman", and you sometimes pronounce "ax" more like "ass." Also, "loss" should be pronounced more like "lawss" (rhyming with boss and moss). In general, however, you speak very clearly. JJ

[187] 2010-01-28 16:14:58 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. Your voice was very nice and slow, which made it easier to understand. However, there were a few errors: "heard" sounded like "herb", house sounded like "horse" and tricked should sound more like "trick'd" - where the k and d blend together. Last, there were a few times when the r and l sounds were mixed up (like in wall and flour). NHB

[186] 2010-01-28 07:40:20 - LISTEN

I could understand 85%. It is a bit hard to follow with how fast you recorded this. Slow it down, it will help your audience understand you better and allow you to breath more. Also the word "diminished" you missed the "n" sound in it. It should be more like "dee...min...ish...ed". KSM

[185] 2010-01-28 06:37:32 - LISTEN

I understood about 90-95%. You spoke very nice and slowly, which made it easier to understand. Overall, you pronunciations were okay, but practice saying the words a little more clearly, with stronger endings. The only mispronunciation I heard was "rewards" which sounded like "reword." Continue to practice and you'll continue to improve! NHB

[184] 2010-01-28 05:45:46 - LISTEN

I understood about 45%. You should continue to practice speaking at the same speed - it was nice a slow. However, there are many pronunciation problems to work on. The first is to practice your "l" and "r" sounds. They were often mixed up, like in the word "reason" and "round." Next, some vowell sounds were a little off. "Snap" was pronounced like "snape" but it should have a shorter vowell sound, like the "a" in "apple". Similarly, "presence" should all have short "e" sounds like in the word "red". Lastly, I'm not sure if it was a technical problem, but this whole phrase was missing "was given you as a reward? Of course not; it is a badge of disgrace." Keep practicing and it will get better! NHB

[183] 2010-01-28 00:42:55 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. Your recording ended early, at the part where it said "I thought those grapes were ripe." You certainly spoke loudly, but it seemed that your mouth was very close to the recording device because it was a little muffled at time. Overall, this was a good job. A few words to work on: branch, which was missing the first "b" sound; and vain, which sounded like vine. Also a few times the "r" sound was skipped over like in "for" and "were." NHB

[182] 2010-01-27 23:45:57 - LISTEN

I understood 100%. You have a very loud and animated voice which makes it enjoyable to listen to. The only little problem was the word "once", which needs a clearer "n" sound. NHB

[181] 2010-01-27 16:09:02 - LISTEN

I could understand 100% of what you read; however, I have a few pronunciation suggestions to ease communication. At times the L sound in a word was pronounced more like an R; for example, "laid" came out more like "raid." Also, at times you add an extra syllable to the end of a word; for example, "rich-eh," "laid-eh," "off-eh," and so on. In general, however, you come across quite confident, and you speak at a good pace for understanding. JJ

[180] 2010-01-27 10:06:10 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. You spoke very slowly, which I think is good to practice pronunciation. Once you get more comfortable, I would recommend speaking a little faster. A couple things to work on: "realized" is missing the "r" sound in front; the phrase "i see sir" kind of blended all together, so it sounded like one word - try little pauses inbetween to make each word distinct; and sooner should be pronounced like "sooo-ner." Keep practicing and it will get even better! NHB

[179] 2010-01-27 09:46:58 - LISTEN

I could easily understand 100% of what you read -- you spoke clearly and at a good pace for understanding. I just have one pronunciation suggestion: You might want to work on your "W" sound when it begins a word. "Wouldn't" sounded more like "ouldn't." JJ

[178] 2010-01-27 07:42:57 - LISTEN

I understood about 80%. The biggest thing to work on is the "r" and "l" sounds. Sometimes they were mixed up, like in "wealth" and "all" there was an "r" sound. Otherwise, it sounded good. NHB

[177] 2010-01-27 06:54:57 - LISTEN

I understood about 40%. Your voice is very nice when speaking. You speak at a good speed and clearly. The main thing to work on is pronuncition. First, watch your "r" and "l" sounds. Sometimes they are mixed up, like in the work "overrun". Next, practice your vowell sounds. The wrong one is said in a few words like "tricked", "house" and "wall". Last, here are some other pronunciation corrections: "determine" should sound like "dee-ter-min", "awkward" should sound like "awk (dropping your jaw)-ward", and "innocent" should sound like "in-no-sent". Also, "ma'am" should sound like "mam". I realize this recording is from a while ago, but keep practicing! NHB

I could easily understand everything you read -- you speak very clearly and at a good pace for a listener. JJ

[175] 2010-01-27 00:18:56 - LISTEN

I understood nearly 100%. The recording ended a little early, and it seemed like you stumbled a bit on the "w" sound in "with." You have a voice that is full of expression and you pronunciated almost all of the words correctly. The only correction I have, is the word "best" sounded like it was missing the "s." Overall, a very good job! Keep practicing. NHB

[174] 2010-01-27 00:13:24 - LISTEN

I understood nearly 100%. You have a very nice speaking voice, that is very clear, although sometime you talk a little fast. There were just a few minor pronunciations to work on, but I could still understand what was being said: The first time you said "grapes" the "p" sound needed to be stronger - but you did a good job with the rest of the story. The "w" sound in quench (qwench) was missing, and lastly, the "l" sound in "all" sounded like "r". At the very end, "sour" sounded like "sore". It should be pronounced "sow-er." Overall, a great job! NHB

[173] 2010-01-26 19:33:03 - LISTEN

Once again, I could understand everything you read -- you speak very clearly and with good phrasing. Very good. JJ

[172] 2010-01-26 15:04:28 - LISTEN

I understood about 80%. You have a very nice and clear voice, which makes it easier for me to understand you and the story. However, there are some pronunciations that need some work. The "p" sound in "grapes" needs to be stronger. At first, when you read the title, it sounded like "grass". Next, on words that are in the past tense with the "-ed" sound at the end need to only have the "d" sound, so that "missed" sounds like "missd", "walked" like "walkd" and reached should sound like "reachd." This can be hard with all of the consonants pushed together at the end, but with some practice, you should get it. Also, in "nose," the "e" is silent and "quite" should sound like "qwite." NHB

[171] 2010-01-26 06:57:08 - LISTEN

I could understand 98%. Only mistake here is the word "villain", it is simply "villin", the "a" in this word is silent. KSM

[170] 2010-01-26 02:27:59 - LISTEN

I understood about 80%. The recording cut off a little early, after "you are very clever ma'am, but." There were a few pronunciation errors. "Last" had an r sound instead of an l sound, "up" didn't have a clear "p" sound and "awkward" should be pronounced "awk-ward", where the first part sounds like the bird "hawk" without the h. Lastly, "considered" was a little jumbled. It should sound like "con-sid-erd." Overall, you did well but there were many little mistakes. NHB

[169] 2010-01-26 01:34:33 - LISTEN

I could understand 100% of what you read; you speak very clearly and confidently. There was just one pronunciation issue that I noticed: "the" and "there" were pronounced more like "da" and "dere". I could still understand you perfectly, but working on this might help ease communication a little. Good. JJ

[168] 2010-01-25 07:25:49 - LISTEN

I understood about 60%. Next time, trying slowing down just a little bit, which will make it easier to understand you. On some of the words, you added an extra -a sound at the end: which-a-laid. This made a group of words sound like one long word. Also, try reading more carefully. Some of the mistakes might just have been from reading to fast, like saying "says the farmer" instead of "said the farmer." Reading slower might help a lot. NHB

[167] 2010-01-25 05:36:27 - LISTEN

I was unable to open the sound file for this recording -- please upload it again, and we will be happy to review. Thank you! JJ

[166] 2010-01-25 05:14:09 - LISTEN

I could easily understand everything you read -- you speak at a good speed and come across clear and confident. I only noticed one tiny pronunciation issue: "nuisance" should be pronounced more like "noo-sense" rather than "noo-i-sense." But of course, that's just a small thing. Excellent. JJ

[165] 2010-01-25 03:10:34 - LISTEN

I could understand about 80% of what you read -- One pronunciation issue that I noticed was that you tend to add an extra syllable to the end of words. For example, "proud" comes out "proud-ah," "great" comes out "great-ah", etc. The words "his" "and" and "was" were the same way. If you slow down a little bit, it might be easier to focus on this. JJ

[164] 2010-01-24 19:14:58 - LISTEN

I understood about 100%. However, you spoke very fast, and while I could understand the words, it is helpful to slow down just a little bit when reading a story out loud or speaking for a long time. One area to work on is the "l" and "r" sounds which were mixed up in "all" and "wealth." NHB

[163] 2010-01-24 06:11:43 - LISTEN

I understood 95%. I would suggest speaking a little bit slower, but overall, you were very clear. A couple things: the word "branch" at the beginning was said as "branches" but it is only one "branch"; the word "missed" should be pronounced "missd" not "miss-ed"; and lastly, the "l" sound in "all" and "walked" was mixed with the "r" sound. NHB

[162] 2010-01-24 02:08:52 - LISTEN

I understood 100%. Your voice was clear, it had expression, and you spoke at a comfortable pace. The only little correction I have is the word "their" in "their wealth" was missing the "r" sound. Very good! NHB

[161] 2010-01-23 22:18:59 - LISTEN

I understood 100%. You spoke clearly and at a good pace. The only suggestion I have is to work on the "th" sound like in "them" "then" and "the." In this recording, it sounded like the letter "d" -"dem, den, de". However, you did pronounce "their" with a good "th" sound. D and th are very similar sounds, and the "d" replaces the "th" in many American accents. Keep practicing! NHB

[160] 2010-01-23 10:16:24 - LISTEN

I understood nearly 100%. Some of the vowel sounds should be a little shorter - sometimes they are dragged out and it gives the words a funny accent. For example, the "u" in fortune should not be as long, and the "au" in exhausted. Overall, you have a very clear voice. NHB

[159] 2010-01-22 05:39:12 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. The word "goad" sounded like "goat" and "wheel" was missing the "w" sound in front. To make that sound, breathe out with your mouth rounded a bit. Also, make sure to read carefully, because "and" was said instead of "or." Lastly, the name Hercules can be hard to say, and you said it many different ways throughout the recording. It should be pronounced "Herk-you-leez". NHB

[158] 2010-01-22 02:20:46 - LISTEN

I understood nearly 100%. Only two things: the word "scene" at the end sounded like "sin" - it should be pronounced like "seen"; and I would recommend speaking more loudly. You voice was very quiet and difficult to hear at times. You have a very good pace of talking. NHB

[157] 2010-01-21 21:07:36 - LISTEN

I understood nearly 100%. You have a very powerful voice, which makes it easier to understand each word. The only mispronunciation was the word "plumage." You pronounced it how it looks, "plum-ig", but it should actually be pronounced "ploom-ig." Good work! NHB

[156] 2010-01-21 07:01:50 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. Overall, you speed and and voice were very good. There were just a few mispronunciations: the word "goddess" sounded like "goodness," so watch out for those vowel sounds. The ending of "touched" was too separate: it sounded like "touch-ed" when it should sound like "touch'd." Lastly, your "r" sounds were very good, but occasionally your l's sounded like r's as in well sounded like wer. NHB

[155] 2010-01-20 23:29:57 - LISTEN

I understood about 40-50%. Many of the words were jumbled together, and I could not understand what was being said in some sentences, like the phrase "at last the mice could stand it no longer." Some words need better pronunciation, like the word "awkward" and "house" (which sounded like horse) and ma'am (which should be pronounced "mam"). Try speaking very slowly. It might sound funny at first, but it will help you to say each word more clearly. After you are comfortable with each word, then you can talk a faster pace. NHB

[154] 2010-01-20 20:15:15 - LISTEN

Once again, I could understand everything you read, and I love the voices of the Wolf and the Lamb. There were just a few little pronunciation issues this time around: I noticed that you tended to drop the "w" sound in "wolf." Also, the word "creature" should be pronounced more like "creeture" (with two syllables) rather than "creeAture" with three. JJ

[153] 2010-01-20 11:55:36 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. You spoke slowly, which made it easier to understand each word, and I would continue to do that until your comfortable with pronunciations. Just a few comments: "leave the leafy trees" sounded like one long word to me, so make sure they are separated. There were a couple sound mix-ups: live sounded like it had an r sound instead of an l, and sufferings sounded like it had a p sound instead of an f sound. Overall, very good and keep practicing! NHB

[152] 2010-01-20 07:29:03 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. I would recommend speaking more loudly or closer to the recording device so that I can hear you better. You pronounced each word well for the most part. The only main problem was with "Notoriety" which should be pronounced "no-ter-i-a-tee." Next, I would try have less pauses in between words once you become comfortable speaking a little faster. It will help the words flow better and increase my understanding of the sentences as a whole. NHB

I understood about 95%. You speak very slowly and carefully, which helps with the pronunciation of words. I would continue to practice at this speed to make sure all of your words are spoken correctly. There were just a few mistakes. "Wealth" had an r sound instead of an l sound, and "think" sounded like "sink." To make the "th" sound, put you tongue between your teeth. Good work and keep practicing! NHB

One pronunciation problem was the "th" sound which was mixed up with the "s" sound. For example, "thing" sounded like "sing" and "thought" sounded like "sought." Lastly, you only mixed up r and l sounds once, in the word "walking" which sounded like "working." Overall, a very good job, just a few corrections. NHB

I understood about 75%. You spoke slowly, which was good, but it was still difficult to understand some words. They ran together in places, and other times there were long pauses at each comma. The pauses should not be too long there. Sometimes words were skipped over, like "long" and the end of the word "fortune." I would suggest practicing r and l sounds. There were a few places where they blended together. NHB

[145] 2010-01-19 07:34:02 - LISTEN

I understood about 50%. You should keep practicing, and that will help make the words sound more natural. There were many times when you stumbled over some of the words, and I think slowing down when you read will give you more confidence. Slowing down will help make sentences less awkward - it was hard to tell when one sentence ended and the other began. There should be longer pauses at the end of sentences, and you voice should end on a lower note. Lastly, practicing l and r sounds and vowel sounds will help. A vowel sound can change a word. For example, "wall" sounded like "well" which gives the story a very different meaning. NHB

The biggest problem was the word "robber." When listening without the text, I thought you were saying "lover." When I read the text along with the recording, I could understand what you were trying to say, just sometimes the pronunciation was a little off. For example, "fled" sounded like "flood" and the "r" sound was missing at the end of "soldier." I could understand about 80%. Your pauses needs a bit of a work. Try to take a breath or pause at any period "." or comma mark ",". This will allow you to breath and continue without having to suddenly pause in the middle of a sentence. KSM

[122] 2010-01-12 17:08:38 - LISTEN

I could understand 90%. The words "saw some fine bunches" needs quick pauses after each word, it was hard to understand those words. Also I would say make sure to pauses and breathe whenever you see any "." (periods). KSM

Overall I could understand 70%. The word "laid" you said "lead", it is "lay...aid". Also "bird" sounded like "barn", "bur...ird". And "loses" you missed the "s" at the end, you said "lose". Finally I would say practice a bit more, a few too many pauses that make it hard to follow and understand. KSM

[120] 2010-01-12 06:59:57 - LISTEN

Overall I could only understand about 40%. A lot of words are missing sounds in them. Also the audio is a bit low and quiet. The word "claimed" you said "climbed", it should be "clay...aimed". I would advise to practice a bit more until you are ready to submit an audio file. KSM

[119] 2010-01-12 06:57:02 - LISTEN

I could easily understand 100% of what you said -- you spoke very clearly and at a good pace. I did notice that at times, the R and L sound in a word were switched ("notoriety" was pronounced "notoLiety" and "tinkling" was pronounced "tinkeRing.") However, in general, your pronunciation was perfect. JJ

Overall I could understand 85%. The word "lucky" sounded like "looky", it is "luck...key". Also the words "egg" and "eggs" said throughout, sounded like "axe" a bit, "egg" is simply "eg", like from the word "leg". KSM

[117] 2010-01-12 06:19:52 - LISTEN

I could understand 100% of what you read (and I love the voices you do for the different mice!) I have just a few pronunciation suggestions. Sometimes, the "th" sound in a word was pronounced more like a D -- for example, "together" was pronounced more like "togeDDer." Also, some vowel sounds were a little bit off -- "keep" for example should have the same EE sound as "cheese" and "sheep" instead of the "i" sound like "kip." For the most part, though, you speak very clearly. Great. JJ

I could easily understand everything that you said; however, there were a few pronunciation issues that I noticed. First, the R and L sounds within words were often mixed up. "Laid" was pronounced more like "Raid", while "all" sounded more like "or." At times, syllables were added to the end of the word ("wife" was pronounced more like "wife-eh". Also, at times, the "th" sound in a word was pronounced more like a D -- "though" was pronounced "dough" and "they" became "day". JJ

I could easily understand everything you said, and you spoke at a good pace; I just have a few pronunciation suggestions to improve communication. First, the word "charcoal" should be pronounced with the "ch" sound (like in "chair" and "cheese") rather than the "c" sound (like "carcoal"). Also, sometimes letter sounds are dropped -- for example, you pronounced "House" more like "Ouse." Otherwise, you are quite clear. JJ

I understood 100%. You spoke clearly and at a good speed. I could understand the story even when not paying full attention the first time I listened to it. When listening again and more closely, the only main pronunciation mistake I heard was the word "plow." The "ow" sound is confusing in English because it can be pronounced many different ways, depending on the word. In this case, "plow" should rhyme with the word "how" (as in "how are you doing?"). NHB

I understood about 95%. You spoke very clearly and at a good pace. The were just three places that needed work. The l sound in wall was mixed up with the r sound so it sounded like were. Along the same line, the word "hurled" was difficult to understand because the r and l sound were jumbled. Lastly, "fraud" was missing a strong "d" sound at the end, so it sounded like "frau." Keep up the good work! NHB

First, often the L and R sounds within words were mixed up; for example, "frog" was pronounced more like "fLog" and "legs" pronounced more like "regs." Also, sometimes extra syllables were added to a word: "creature" should be pronounced more like "CREE-ture" (2 syllables) rather than "cree-A-ture" (3 syllables). I understood nearly 100%. You have a very animated voice, which is pleasing to listen to. Just a few words I had a little difficulty hearing at first: reason, nuisance, and reward. In reason and nuisance, the "s" sounded like "z" and made the words sound a little different at first. I think "reward" blended into the next word, so it wasn't clear what was being said. Overall, good job. NHB

[94] 2010-01-09 05:38:49 - LISTEN

Overall I could understand 60%. You seem to be missing ending sounds on words and they then sound like something else. The word "birth" sounded like "bird", needs that "th" sound and the word "cruel" sounded like "crew", needs the "l" sound. Also "Athens" is mispronounced. Finally "further" sounded like "father", needs that "fur" sound in it, not "far". KSM

I could understand 95%. The only missed word is "air", it sounded like "ear", it is different. Finally I would also maybe slow it down, it was a little fast to follow, even though you got most of the words right, talking or speaking this fast is uncommon and hard for anyone to follow. KSM

[88] 2010-01-07 08:48:12 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. The "p" in "grapes" sounded more like "graves". On the opposite side, the "v" in vain was not pronounced. Lastly, the "r" in ripe was confused with the "l" sound, and "sour" should not have a "sh" sound. It also might help if you spoke a little louder next time. These are all small problems, but they will get better with practice. NHB

[87] 2010-01-07 07:34:45 - LISTEN

I understood about 80%. I would recommend slowing down just a little when you speak, and if possible to speak a little louder. Overall, you did a good job. One thing to work on is the "r" and "l" sound. They got mixed up at times, like in the word "roofs". Also, the word "will" is missing from "I will never again approach their homes." Sometimes the words ran together like "among men" but I think if you slow down just a little bit, it will make it more clear. NHB

[86] 2010-01-07 04:23:16 - LISTEN

I understood 99%. You spoke very clearly. There were only two errors. The word "spurs" needs a stronger "s" sound at the front. I thought at first you had said "birds". The second is "tricked" should sound like "trick'd" and not "trick-ed". Overall, very good! NHB

[85] 2010-01-06 07:30:37 - LISTEN

I could understand about 95%. There was a very loud buzzing noise in your recording, which made it difficult to hear you. The phrase "I thought those grape were ripe" was very hard to hear. [84] 2010-01-06 05:10:29 - LISTEN

I understood about 70%. You speak very nicely and clearly. The biggest thing to work on is the "l" sound. Many times it sounded like "r", like in the words falling and well. [83] 2010-01-06 03:17:05 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. You speak at a very good speed, and, for the most part, very clearly. Just a few things to work on: "goddess" should just be "god-des" with no r sound. The "w" at the beginning of "would" is missing. There were a few times when the "r" sound and "l" sound got mixed up, like in the word "blamed". These are all little things, but they will really improve understanding. NHB

[82] 2010-01-06 03:02:12 - LISTEN

I could understand 90%. You have very good pronunciation and a very clear voice. The main thing I would recommend working on is the "-ed" at the end of words. For example "peeped" should be pronounced more like "peepd" and "tricked" should be more like "trick'd" and not "trick-ed." One other little mistake is "ma'am" is pronounced like "mam". Good work! NHB

I understood 85%. The main thing to work on is the "l" sound. It often was mixed up with the "r" sound, for example is "usual" and "well". Sometimes the "l" sound was dropped altogether, so that "wild" sounded like "wide". Keep practicing it, and it should improve! NHB

[73] 2010-01-02 07:14:02 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. You volume and speed of speaking were very good, but there a few spots where you paused or stumbled. The only main pronunciation problem I heard was the word "sour" which should sound like "sow-er". NHB

[72] 2009-12-31 18:27:05 - LISTEN

I could understand about 25%. When I listened to it along with the text, I could understand about 70%. The main problem is with the "r" sound. At the end of "bear" it sounds more like a vowel sound, almount like "bayeh" instead of a strong consonant sound. Also the "r" in front of "ran" sounds like "l" sound. The word "wounded" is also missing the "w" sound in front. I would recommend slowing down a making sure all the words a pronounced correctly. NHB

I could understand 60%. The word "nightingale" is missing the "n" sound to it (it is "night...in...gale"). The word "leave" you said "live", it is more like the words "lee" and "eve" used together. The word "men", you said "man", "man" is one, "men" is used for more than one. Finally some words are missing their ending sound, "roofs" and "wrongs" both need that "s" sound added to it, for example. KSM

[66] 2009-12-30 04:46:54 - LISTEN

Overall, I could understand 90% of it. Only a few things to notice. First the word "round", you actually said "around". Second, the word "strutted" is not the same as "started", it is more "stru...ted" so in other words, "stru" not "star". Finally the word "reward", the ending of it you used "word", it should be "ward". KSM

[65] 2009-12-30 02:51:12 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. Your reading voice is very good and clear most of the time. The only pronunciation mistake was the word "made" which should have a long "a" sound. One problem was occasionally your voice was a little nasally, and your "m"'s sounded like "b"'s, which is often what happens when someone has a cold. Overall, very good. NHB

[63] 2009-12-29 10:47:17 - LISTEN

I understood about 95%. In general, everything was pronounced very well. However, "trained" should have a long "a" sound like in "rain" or "lane." The best thing to work on is to speak evenly - there are some points where you talk very fast and all the words rush together, which makes it hard to understand. For example, "Fox saw some fine" was said quickly and the word "saw" almost disappeared. There were a few other places like that, but if you practice speaking at an even pace,it will be much easier to understand. NHB

[62] 2009-12-29 07:14:06 - LISTEN

I understood about 75%. It would have been much better if the words were spoken more clearly. In this recording, they sounded very mumbled. In general, the beginnings of words are very clear and strong, like "t" in traveler, but the end of the words are very quiet and soft when they should also be clear and strong. The word "would" is missing in "you would not have been blamed" and the word "goddess" sounded like "bodies" to me. I would suggest paying attention to the end of words and speaking a little more clearly. NHB

[61] 2009-12-29 05:03:03 - LISTEN

I understood nearly 100% when I listened to the recording without the text. There were only two problems: the first is "a cat" at the beginning of the second sentence sounded like "a get." Every other time, "cat" is pronounced correctly. The second is the word "trick" and "tricked." They both have a short "i" sound, as in "big", not "ee." Other than that, the words were very clear and the story was read very well. NHB

[60] 2009-12-28 07:08:23 - LISTEN

I understood about 99%. All the words were said very clearly and at just the right speed. The only minor correction is the word "arguing" which should sound like "ar-gu-ing" instead of "ar-guing." This is very minor, so overall a very good job. NHB

[59] 2009-12-28 04:44:35 - LISTEN

I understood about 70%. Your voice is very clear, but there were some troubles with pronunication. The word "advised" sounded like "dadvised" with a extra "d" sound at the beginning. The vowell sound in "leafy" should sound like "ee." The word "replied" had an "f" sound in the middle. The word "that" is said in this audio sample instead of "then" in "I suffered then makes me hate them." The very last sentence is read perfectly. Overall there were a lot of little errors, that when combined made it difficult to understand. NHB

[58] 2009-12-28 04:19:49 - LISTEN

I understood about 50-60%. The biggest problem was that the word "wolf" was pronounced incorrectly and since that is the main character of the story, it was hard to understand what was happening. "Wolf" needs to have a "w" sound in front of it, made by rounding your lips and exhaling quickly. Also the "r" in "ran" and "runs" needs to be more clear. Make sure each word is spoken. Sometimes words like "as" and "this" are skipped over. The sentences are a little choppy - sometimes there is too long of a pause in between each word. However, I would rather each word be said correctly and slowly and worry about the speed of talking later. NHB

[57] 2009-12-27 07:49:22 - LISTEN

I understood about 70%. The beginning of the word "fortune" should sound like "four" (rhyming with "more"). In the audio sample it sounds like "fur." These sounds are just a little bit different, but the mouth should be more round and your tongue should be lower in your mouth. Also, the "d" was missing from the end of the word "said" and the "w" sound was missing from the beginning fo the word "would." Overall, you spoke clearly and slowly. Next, practice speaking with less pause between each word, and it will sound more natural. NHB

[56] 2009-12-26 00:28:48 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. Your voice is very clear and you speak very naturally with pauses in all the right places. A few pronunciation problems: Sometimes "traveler" sounded like "trabeler," so make sure to say the "v" sound and not the "b" sound. The word "goddess" should be pronounced "gah-des." Lastly, the "w" sound is missing from the beginning of the word "would." Careful pronunciation will really help imporve understanding. NHB

[55] 2009-12-25 12:59:47 - LISTEN

I understood about 50%. I would recommend reading more slowly to work on saying each word clearly. Once pronunciation is better, than you can practice reading more quickly. Make sure to say the end of the word, like the "n" in "men." Another area to practice is vowel sounds. "Hate" should have a long "a" sound, and "scene" should have a long "e" sound in the middle like "ee." Also, the word "shelter" sounded like "shoulder" so the "t" sound should be stronger. For now, I really think slowing down will help a lot. NHB

[54] 2009-12-25 11:58:53 - LISTEN

I understood 99%. This was nearly perfect except for two small mispronunciations. The first was the word "touched" sounded like "taught" so the "ch" needs to be stronger. Also, in the last sentence (had you fallen into the well...) the "fallen" sounded like "falling." Overall, wonderful job. Your voice was very clear and easy to understand. NHB

[53] 2009-12-25 11:37:27 - LISTEN

I understood about 65%. The first sentence was read very well, except that "sank" sounded a little like "sit." The second sentence is okay. The "d" at the end of "touched" is missing, and there were some extra pauses in this sentence that made it difficult to understand the meaning of the sentence. The last sentence was the most difficult to understand. The words were not very clear when I first listened to it, especially "wake up, good sir." The word "said" sounded like "sighed" and "would" sounded like "could." Practice reading a little more carefully, and saying the ends of words more clearly so they don't blend into the next word. A little more practice will help a lot. NHB

The word "nightingale" is missing the "in" sound, it is "night-in-gale" not "night-gale". Also "swallow" you made it sound "saw-low", it should be "s-wha-low". And "cruel" was missing the "l" ending sound, you made it sound like "crew". Finally you said "the nest" when the text reads "and nest". KSM

[50] 2009-12-24 08:37:42 - LISTEN

In general, I was able to understand everything that you said. I have just a few suggestions to make comprehension a bit easier: At times, the "l" sound at the beginning of a word sounded more like an "r". For example, "laid" was pronounced more like "raid". Sometimes, a syllable was added to the end of a word. For example, "wife" was pronounced more like "wife-ah", "rich" like "rich-ah". I also noticed that sometimes the consonant sound at the end of the word was dropped, which made the words blend together a bit; for example, "cut it open"--I'd recommend saying the 't's a little stronger to help understanding. Sometimes, sounds were added to the end of the word. For example, "Though" should be pronounced more like "Tho" but it sounded like there was an 's' sound at the end. JJ

[49] 2009-12-24 00:19:33 - LISTEN

Overall I could understand most of it. The biggest issue I had is the speed that you use. I think you might want to slow it down a bit. Even if people get inpatient with you, it is better to speak slow and clear than to try to speak really fast and have no one understand you. Also you could use a little more pauses in between words. Where it said "several suggestions" it need a small pause, as you made it sound like one really long word that was hard to understand. Next, the part where it says "carry it out. We should", you need a pause at the period or ".", always make sure to take a breath or pause during any punctuations, periods or "." and commas or "," are meant for breaks and pauses. Finally some group of words need pauses are certain times, when it said "I agree with you all that the plan", you might want to try pausing in between "all" and "that". In short, make sure to slow down a little more so people can understand you and take pauses or breaths during any punctuations (periods, commas). KSM

I could understand about 50%. What can really help is practing the sounds in the words separately before putting them together as a word. For example, "traveler" sounded like "chav-ler." It should be "tra-vel-er." Also "goddess" should have have an "ah" sound in "god" but in the audio sample it sounded more like "guttess." The word "exhausted" is pronounced like "ex-aw-sted" but sounded a little mumbled in the audio sample. Practice saying each sound clearly and it will help a lot. NHB

[47] 2009-12-23 08:16:37 - LISTEN

I could understand about 80%. There are a few missed pronounced words that stand out. The first thing I noticed was the pronunciation on "fox", it sounded like "pox", it is missing the "f" sound. Also you missed a few of the ending sounds, the word "grapes" throughout the audio you said "grape" without the "s" sound at the end, and the word "thought" near the end was missing the "t" sound. Try to get those ending sounds out there, it can really change what people hear. At the end also the word "nose", you missed that "s" sound, so it sounded like "no". I think with a little more practice and getting more comfortable you will do a lot better. KSM

Overall I could understand 85%. The word "north" sounded like "nurth", it needs to be more like "no...ore...th". Also the word wrapped needs to be one word, not "wrap...ped". Finally the word "forth" is just like the word "north", I heard "first" instead. KSM

[43] 2009-12-22 21:01:07 - LISTEN

I could understand about 95%. The word "sport" at the end needs more of that "t" sound. Also one thing to note is the first sentence could be slowed down a bit more and remember to pause at each "," (comma) sign. KSM

[42] 2009-12-22 20:57:46 - LISTEN

I could understand everything that you read; however, I have a few suggestions to ease communication. At times, you drop the first or final consonant in a word: for example, "found" was pronounced more like "foun," while "world" came out more like "ould." If you make the beginning and ending sounds a little stronger, it will be easier for a listener. I also noticed that at times the "th" sound was pronounced more like a "d"--for example, "though" was pronounced more like "dough." You still come across quite clear, however, and you speak at a good pace for understanding. JJ

[41] 2009-12-22 20:53:30 - LISTEN

I could easily understand everything that you said; however, it would ease communication if you worked on your phrasing (the way you group words) a little, and pause in more natural places. For example, "the mouse, (pause) terrified, (pause)." JJ

[40] 2009-12-22 10:02:43 - LISTEN

I understood about 70%. Most of the words were spoken very clearly, and the slower reading made it easier to understand. However, there were very long pauses in the middle of sentences that shouldn't be there. I could not understand a few phrases, like "all in vain." Reading along with the recording helped to understand it better, but the words blended together too much and it sounded like "fain" instead of a stronger "v" sound (the "v" in vine was pronounced very well). Another phrase that was difficult to understand was "were ripe." It can be hard to say two "r" sounds in a row, but some practice will help. NHB

[39] 2009-12-22 03:31:59 - LISTEN

I could understand everything. The pronunciation is good and the speed seems to fit your level of knowledge. Good. KSM

[38] 2009-12-22 02:40:47 - LISTEN

I could understand about 90%. Some of the words you missed I think are common due to having an accent. The word "Fortune" is pronounced with the words "for" and "chin". "Exhausted" needs a little more "x" sound too it. When you said "goddess" it sound like "gardness", there is no "r" sound, it is simply "god" and "dess". Also the text said "would" but you said "should", they are different words. Lastly, I think the word "touched" does not need that long of a pause in between "touch" and "ed", its not really wrong, but saying it with a longer pause makes it a little too noticeable. Overall though, you are doing very well and it seems like you have been practicing a lot. KSM

[37] 2009-12-21 23:18:43 - LISTEN

I could understand 95%. There were two recordings of the same story on this audio sample. Both times, your voice was very clear and very expressive. You also talked at a nice speed. I would recommend practicing the "l" sound more, which a lot of the time had the "r" sound instead. On the second recording, the "l" sound was better. The only other mistake was the word "bunches" and "walked" which were missing the sounds at the end. "Bunches" should be "bunch-es" and "walked" should be "walk'd" (with a "d" sound on the end). Overall, very good. NHB

[36] 2009-12-21 23:05:11 - LISTEN

Overall I could understand almost all of it. There are only a few problems that I can hear. First is the words "if we kill it", it was missing the "we" in it, I only heard "if kill it". You should make a very short pause between "if" and then another between "we", "if...we...kill it" for example. Also the words "all at once" was a little unclear. And finally, the last line, "Much wants more and loses all" needs some more work. You should be happy to hear that this sentence or phrase is uncommon and I personal would never say something like that. Here though you might want to try pausing a bit more in between each word. The biggest thing when learning another language is to go at a comfortable pace and if something is too complicated, slow it down a bit and take each word at a time. When you slow down, others may be impatient but they will be able to understand you. Until you really become a master at English, don't worry about trying to speak fast enough. KSM

[35] 2009-12-21 22:53:13 - LISTEN

I understood nearly 100% of the audio sample. You have a very clear and nice reading voice. You did an excellent job saying every sound, with just two exceptions. In the first sentence, "saw" sounded more like "sew." Try opening your mouth wider to make the "aw" noise. Secondly, the word "quite" at the very end needed a stronger "t" sound at the end. Overall, very good. NHB

[34] 2009-12-21 20:59:18 - LISTEN

I understood about 85%. A few pronunciation corrections: woodman should have a "w" sound in the front, like the word "water," which you pronounced correctly. Occasionally ax sounded like ask. The speed of your voice is very good. NHB

[33] 2009-12-21 20:47:51 - LISTEN

I could understand 100% of what you read; you speak clearly and at a good pace. I have only one suggestion: at times you pronounce the "th" sound in a word more like a "d"; for example, "the" was pronounced more like "da." I could still understand what you were saying, but working on this a little will make it easier for a listener. JJ

[32] 2009-12-21 20:45:03 - LISTEN

I understood about 99%. The tone of your voice is easy to understand. There were just two problem spots. Your l and r sounds were mixed up in "consulting" which sounded like "consurting," and I could understand the word "articles" in the sentence "took away with him some article out of the house." Over good job and keep practicing. NHB

[31] 2009-12-21 20:36:27 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. There were a few places that need work: "sold" sounded like "sord", so practice the l and r sound. The phrase "miserable bird" ran together, so it sounded like one word. Lastly, the "sh" in perishing sounded like just an "s." Your tongue should be lower in your mouth when you say the "sh" sound. NHB

[30] 2009-12-21 20:19:30 - LISTEN

I could understand about 80%. One thing to note is that you had multiple readings on your audio file. With that however I was able to see some words you have some difficult with. The first word that stands out is "dullness", the first time you read the story, it sounded like "dollness", "dollness" has that "awe" sound where as "dullness" as more of a "dole", as in "mole", sound to it. Lastly the word "denying", you missed the "n" sound and sounded like "dying", make it more of a "de"-"ny" "ing". Finally I would say the best advice I can give is to relax a little more and try to breathe and only make pauses after periods (".") and commas (","). With making your words more clear and relaxing, more and more will be able to understand you. The biggest problem, even with native speakers, are to be able to breathe properly and relax enough. KSM

[29] 2009-12-21 19:06:18 - LISTEN

I could understand pretty much all of it. Only a few problems I had with some words. The word "upon" needs more of that ending sound, "on". The word "bell" is missing the "ll" sound, sounds like the word "be" instead. And also "carry it out" needs a small pause in between each word, you say it too fast I think and it becomes hard to understand. Finally you seemed to have missed the word "when" where it says "when an Old Mouse got upon." In short, I would say you have the pronunciation of most words down but just need to slow down a bit and make a few more pauses between words, not long, but some short pauses will do. KSM

[28] 2009-12-21 18:59:42 - LISTEN

I was able to easily understand everything you said; however, I have a few suggestions to ease communication. First, you might want to work on your phrasing. Instead of "everything I've worked hard (pause) to whiten", try "everything I've worked hard to whiten (pause)..." Also, at times vowel sounds are changed within a word. For example, "lived" was pronounced more like "leaved." However, in general, you spoke very clearly and at a good pace. JJ

[27] 2009-12-21 18:58:17 - LISTEN

In general, I was easily able to understand around 95% of what you said. I have just one suggestion to ease comprehension: At times, the "l" sound within a words sounded more like an "r". For example, "bell" sounded more like "bear". For the most part, however, you spoke very clearly, pausing at the end of phrases, and making it very easy to understand what you are saying. JJ

[26] 2009-12-21 10:51:01 - LISTEN

I could understand about 95%. This was a short sample, and I could understand every word except "begged" which sounded like "beck" and I didn't hear the word "her" after begged. There is an interesting accent/voice inflextion where the sounds go up and down frequently, which was a little distracting, but I could still understand everything. NHB

[25] 2009-12-21 08:56:25 - LISTEN

I could understand about 50% when I listened to the sample. Some of this might be due to the low sound and there was some humming noise on the recording. However, even when reading the text with the recording, it was still difficult to understand. One of the biggest improvements would be to enunciate each word clearly. Sometime words were mumbled together. Another problem was an extra "a" sound was added to the end of a lot of words, like "missed him" sounded like "missedahim." Also, one repeated mistake was pronouncing the word "puffed" as "puffing." Lastly, the word enormous was pronounced in the sample like ENormous, but the emphasis should be in the middle of the word: enORmous. NHB

[24] 2009-12-21 08:46:50 - LISTEN

I could understand 100%. You really did a wonderful job at pronouncing everything correctly and perfectly. The only thing I would have to comment on is that some of your pauses are not really needed that much. In everyday, common speaking, most would use a little less pauses than what you used. Of course, this is only my opinion. Overall though, this is near perfection, you must have been working hard and practicing a lot. KSM

[23] 2009-12-21 08:41:35 - LISTEN

I could easily understand 85-90% of what you said, and you spoke at a good pace. I just have one small suggestion to make comprehension a little easier. At times, the "l" sound within a word was pronounced more like an "r"--for example, "herseLf" sounded more like "herseRf", "waLL" sounded more like "weRe." Other than this, however, you came across as clear and confident. JJ

[22] 2009-12-21 08:37:18 - LISTEN

I understood about 90%. Although the speaker spoke very quickly, I could understand almost all of what was being said. There were just a few mispronunciations that I found: When the title was read, there was an extra syllable after "laid" so that it sounded like "laida." This might have been just reading error, assuming that it was going to say "the goose that laid a golden egg" instead of "laid the golden eggs." In addition, there were some problems with the long o sound in open and hoped, which sounded in this sample like "uhpen" and "hopped." Finally, the last sentence was a little stumble, which can be prevented if it was being read more slowly. NHB

[21] 2009-12-21 00:14:47 - LISTEN

I could understand about 95%. The pronunciation was very good, except for the first "reach" sounded like "rich." The second "reach" was pronounced correctly. The speaker had too many long pauses in the middle of sentences, which made the sample sound a little choppy. For example, there is a pause after "with his nose" and then "in the air" is said later. However, I like the animated and expressive reading voice, which makes this sample enjoyable to listen to, and helps the overall understanding of the story. NHB

[20] 2009-12-20 09:18:29 - LISTEN

I am sorry, but the audio recording is too quiet and even with my sound turned up at its loudest, I can barely hear the speaker. Is it possible to submit another recording? NHB

I understood about 95%. Although spoken quietly, all the words were pronunciated correctly, except for the word "woods" which was missing the "w" sound in front. The only problem with understanding it perfectly was the intonation. Sometimes it was monotone, which makes it difficult to comprehend the story as whole even though I could understand each word. NHB

I could understand 80%. The word "feeling" ending sound "ing" is off a bit, needs a stronger sound to it. Also the words "we will" was not right, it sounded like you said just we. Finally it is "seen", I heard the word "send", "seen" as in "sea-en". KSM

[17] 2009-12-19 23:59:22 - LISTEN

I was able to understand about 80% of what you said on the first listen, and 100% on the second listen. There are just a few suggestions to ease communication. First, the L sound in a word was sometimes pronounced more like an R ("dullness" was pronounced more like "doorness"). Additionally, sometimes, a consonant sound was dropped at the end of a word, making the words blend together a bit -- for example, there should be a harder D sound at the end of "said." Also, the TH sound was often pronounced as a D (feathers --> "fedders," to the earth --> to "de" earth. When you make the "th" sound, make sure you are putting your tongue between your teeth so that the tip of your tongue is touching the tips of your top teeth--you should feel a vibration. JJ

[16] 2009-12-19 23:54:40 - LISTEN

I could understand about 70% of what you said, due to a few pronunciation issues that I noticed. At times, the "the" sound in a word was pronounced like a D ("the" sounded more like "da"). The "w" sound at the beginning of a word was completely dropped ("wolf" sounded more like "ulf"). When you pronounce a W, make sure you close your lips like you're making an "oo" sound, then let your vocal cords vibrate, then open your lips into the next vowel sound. One last pronunciation issue I noticed was that often the R and L sounds within a word were mixed up--for example "plausible" sounded more like "plausiber" while "insult" was pronounced more like "insert." JJ

[15] 2009-12-19 23:46:25 - LISTEN

[13] 2009-12-19 23:37:39 - LISTEN

I could understand about 80%. The main issue is ending sounds. You are missing the ending sounds to many words and it is hard to understand certain words, especially those that end with the letters "d" and "s". Also speed is a bit off, slow it down a bit and pause after any "," and "." KSM

Finally the word "principle" is not right, it is "prin-ci-ple". KSM

[11] 2009-12-19 23:29:36 - LISTEN

Overall I understood most of it. The big problem I see here is the ending sounds on words. The words against, had and cat's are all missing that ending sound. The word "against" needs that "t" sound, "had" needs more of a "d" sound, otherwise it sounds like "have". Also the word "cat's" with an "s" sound is different than just saying "cat". Finally some words are too close together and you need a pause in between those words. Like the words "all the" and "already" they both are need a small pause in between them. In short, remember to get the ending sound on words and make sure to use pause and breathes in between words. KSM

[10] 2009-12-19 23:21:16 - LISTEN

Overall, I understood about 70%. Reading the text that goes along with it really helped me better understand some of the words. A few words I had trouble understanding were some words were missing a clear pronunciaiton. The words "charcoal", "fuller" and "household" were all missing a key pronunciation. Charcoal, was missing the "charr" sound, "fuller" sounded like "filler", so try to use the "full" sound when saying "full-er". Also "household" was missing the "d" sound at the end of it and the word "because" was missing the "c" sound. You seem to have the basic understanding and with a little more practice you should be better at the more complicated words like "charcoal". KSM

I could understand about 90% of it. The main thing noticeable are the missing "t" to certain words. I could understand about 80%. First things to notice is that where it says "saw some", you only said "some", missed the word "saw". The word "into" you only said "in", it is "in...to" And also the word "air" sounded more like "ear", "air" doesn't need that "e" sound in the beginning of it. Lastly, the word "quite" at the end, could use a more "t" sound on the end of the word. KSM

I was able to understand 85% of what you said; you spoke very clearly and at a good pace. I have just a few suggestions to ease communication. Sometimes the "t" sound within a word almost disappears; for example, in "bite". Also, often the "l" sound in a word was pronounced more like an "r". I noticed this especially in the word "bell", which sounded more like "bear", and "old" which sounded more like "oRd." In general, though, it was quite easy to understand what you were saying. JJ

[5] 2009-12-19 22:02:36 - LISTEN

I could understand about 98% of it. There are only a few words I had trouble with. The word "rapid" sounded like "wapid", needs more of a "r" sound. When you said "managed", you added an extra "ed" sound, it sounded like "managed-ed". Lastly the word "these" sounded like "this", "these" is more like the word "cheese" except with a "t" instead of a "c". Overall though, seems like you have been practicing and with a little more work, you should be able to get those few words sorted out. KSM

[4] 2009-12-19 22:01:34 - LISTEN

I understood about 70%. The biggest problem is that many times the end of the word was not said or enunciated clearly. This only happened when the word ended with a consonant. For example, "dead" sounded like "de", "while" sounded like "why" and "dangerous" sounded like "dangers" in this sample. Also, "awkward" I thought sounded like "okay" and "quarters" sounded like "quarrers." However, all the "r" sounds at the end of words like "clever" and "flour" were pronounced very clearly. NHB

[3] 2009-12-19 21:55:33 - LISTEN

I could understand about 70%. There are some extra syllables and mispronounciation of some words: jealous sounded like julious, predict sounded like predicit, reputation sounded like repitation, and roadside sounded like low side. These are specific mispronunciations and not overall problems or trends, but these mispronunciations make it difficult to understand the story. The last sentence was spoken correctly, but there should be space after "not" instead of before it to make sense. (Those who pretend to be something they are not / only make themselves ridiculous.) Enunciation of sounds overall was very good and clear. NHB

[2] 2009-12-19 21:48:51 - LISTEN

I could understand about 85%. The biggest thing to work on is the "l" sound in the middle of words, like golden and wealth, which sounded like "gurlden" and "werlth" in the sample. Occasionally, the l sound at the end of words was also mispronounced, so that "kill" sounded like "kit." There was nice spacing between sentences and good intonation. NHB

[1] 2009-12-19 21:26:05 - LISTEN

I could understand about 85%. The "p" at the end of grapes is not pronounced correctly. It ends up sounding like "graves" instead of "grapes." However, other "p" sounds like in ripe are pronounced correctly. Also, the "b" in but is not pronounced, and there needs to be some work with the letter "l", like in the word "all." Overall, the speed of talking was good and made it easier to understand. I would also recommend working on intonation, to signal to listeners when a sentence is ending. NHB
